 Used to refer to lexical representation of argument-taking lexical items


ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
 Similar to a persuasive essay
 It is designed to convince the reader
 The difference between persuasive essay and argumentative is that while a persuasive essay may have a certain viewpoint,
argumentative essay will expand on it
ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY STRUCTURE
 INTRODUCTION- introducing your point of view and explain
 THESIS STATEMENT- bringing in your main point of view
 OPPOSING CLAIMS- picking the most important claim against your argument and make it clear why they don’t work
 VIEWPOINT- show why your side is the winning one and the correct one
 CONCLUSION- wrap up your main point and then summarize

REPORT
 A document that presents information in an organized format
 Concisely identifying and examining issues or events
 Designed to be read quickly and easily
 Clearly labeled with heading and sub-headings
 Formally structured in sections
STRUCTURE OF A REPORT
 TITLE PAGE
- what the report is all about
-informative and descriptive
- includes name, date, module/course
- someone simply reading the title will easily understand the main issue of the report
 LIST OF CONTENTS
- section of page numbers
- various chapters or heading along with page numbers
 SUMMARY/ABSTRACT
- the summary
- enables the reader to make an informed decision whether they want to read the whole report
- describes the content, aims, and what was found on the report
 INTRODUCTION
- background or content
- aims and objectives of the report
- identifying any problems or limitations in the scope of the report
 MAIN BODY
- headings and sub-headings which reflect the content of the report
- includes information on method of data collection(methodology), findings of the report(results), and discussion of findings
 CONCLUSION
- overall findings
- major inferences can be drawn from the discussion that makes recommendations
 REFERENCES
- list of reference materials consulted during research for report
- list of all authors
 APPENDICES
- contains supporting information; transcript of interviews, results of surveys, glossary/bibliography, and results from
experiments
