Understanding the Self
Assignment #2

1. My own philosophy in life

“Always choose what makes you happy. Happiness can feed your soul, take risk, have fun and

don’t think about others because life is short to put boundaries for your happiness. ”

2. Which philosophy relates to your own belief

For me, my own philosophy in life can relate to Socrates philosophy because he believe that our

“true self is our soul”, for me myself is my soul. Everything about me explains myself. I always choose

what makes me happy, I know what I want, what I need and what I should do and what I should not do.

Socrates’ self is the individual self, not as someone detached from surrounding reality, but it’s quite

unreflected relationship to nature and society. It’s like when you know yourself, you won’t try to

overstep your powers and make an error. Knowing yourself is like watching your feet, so you don’t

shamefully fall over and get laughed and embarrassed to others. Socrates thought that fame is holy and

his inner knowledge is oriented towards positive acknowledgement by other: I must know myself, so

that others will know me as worthy of praise. If you don’t know yourself it is like you’re more likely to

commit public mistakes and lose your reputation. So for me, myself is more important than others. I

always choose myself and I always know my worth. I always think what’s the best for me that will makes

me better.
