QUESTIONS AND PROBLEMS:

1. From the graph of figure 7.8, what can you say about the current at
the resonant frequency?
Ans: As you can see in the figure 7.8, the resonance occurs when the
total current is at the highest value.
2. From the graph of figure 7.9, what can you say about the current at
the resonant frequency?
Ans: I observed that the total current drops because of the sudden
increase in the frequency.
3. A coil of 30Ω resistance and 106 mH inductance is connected in
series with a variable capacitor to a 200 V, 60 cycle source. Find the
capacitance of the capacitor that would place the circuit at resonance.

For the total current:

using V = I Z
ZT = ZRL + ZC
ZRL= 30 + (WL< 90º)

In RUN1 series resonance, we tried to observed when at what

frequency will the resonance occurs. The resonance will only occurs
when the magnitude of the inductive reactance and capacitive
reactance are equal. If we look at our data the resonance occurs at
the 1.1 KHz frequency. But as you can see according to the theory
VL must be equal to VC. But in our data it failed to be equal because
of the internal resistance of the devices that we use that affect the
value of our output data. I also observed that when the resonance
occurs in a series RLC circuit its total current is in the highest value.

This table shows values that we measured in performing the experiment.

Like in run 1 we vary the value of the frequency and observed when and
what frequencies will the resonance will occur. But this time unlike on the
RUN1 we observed the value of the voltage. This time we are observing
the values of the current. Observing our data, as we increase the value of
the frequency current in RL is decreasing. The resonance occurs when the
IRL and IRC is equal. As you can see in the first trial where the frequency is
set to 1000 Hz the values of the IRL and IRC are almost equal. Its because of
the internal resistance that the device possess that affect the values of our
measured data.

Figure 7.8

This figure shows the graph

of the frequency vs the total
current. The resonance
occurs when the total
current is at the highest
value.
Figure 7.9

Figure 7.9 shows the graph of the frequency vs the total current for RUN2. I
observed that the sudden increase of the frequency the current instantly
drops. You will notice it when the frequency of 1000Hz is change into
2000Hz.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSION:

At the end of this experiment I was able to know the conditions for attaining

resonance in a series and parallel RLC circuit. We attain the resonance by

varying the value of the frequency and observing the voltage for RUN1 and

current for RUN2. For RUN 1 I observed that the resonance occurs when at

the frequency of 1.1 kHz having the heist value of the total current. And for

RUN 2 the resonance occurs at the 1000 Hz frequency. The internal

resistance affects our data, because of the internal resistance the values of

the VL and VC when the resonance occurs is only almost equal same in

the values of IRL and IRC.

I can say that we performed the experiment correctly because we satisfy

the given theory.
