Statement of Purpose – IBA Community Welfare Society

It is well-known that today, college degrees have become more important to everyone to land their
dream job and service to community has taken a backseat. I personally always wanted to work for the
betterment of society and the world at large and was looking for an opportunity to play my part on a
larger scale.

It is not the case that I have done nothing for my community so far. My family members have always
encouraged each other to preserve the environment, because of which I consider it my duty as an
inhabitant of Earth to pick up trash and make the environment greener by planting trees. I have planted
a lot of trees for the future generation to lessen effects of pollution from air. That is why you will find a
lot of trees around my house because I crave fresh air.

Besides caring for and being concerned about environment, I have also developed an emotional
attachment with children suffering from major diseases like Thalassemia and cancer, through interning
at Make A Wish foundation this summer. Going on hospital visits and interacting with terminally-ill
children really touched my heart and drove me to try and do more for them. Those children had so
much courage; they knew they would not live for very long, yet they lived their lives trying to be as
happy as possible. Hearing their small wishes and desires melted my heart. Since then I decided to do
something for them, and what better opportunity for me to do this than to be a part of the welfare
community and help those children by raising funds and donations for them in cash and kind.

I think this society gives me a platform for what I need to do, and I am so glad I still have a chance to be
a part of this society because I firmly believe that I can be an essential and useful asset in helping to
bring about a change in peoples' lives.
