MORPHOLOGICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES DRUING SEED DEVELOPMENT AND MATURATION

Methodology

Okra seeds (var. Smooth Green) were purchased from local distributor of East West Seed Company at Baybay City, Leyte. This seeds were grown in

polybags filled with 1 part garden soil and 1 part compost mixture. Medium filled polybags were then arranged randomly in the assign field equidistant from

each other and two seeds of okra were sown in each poly bag. Seeds were allowed to grow and watered every day until it produces flowers. Newly opened

flowers were tagged indicating the date and repeatedly done at five days interval. Data on fresh and dry weight, size, moisture content, pod length and

diameter germination capacity of the developing seeds as microscopic development of the embryo gathered. Statistics analysis was undertaken by the use of

STAR computer software.

EFFECT OF GIBBERELLIC ACID AND MURIATE OF POTASH AS PREHARVEST TREATMENTS ON THE SEED QUALITY OF OKRA (Abelmoschis esculentus)

Methodology

Okra seeds (var. Smooth Green) were purchased from local distributor of East West Seed Company at Baybay City, Leyte. This seeds were grown in
polybags filled with 1 part garden soil and 1 part compost mixture. Medium filled polybags were planted with two seeds per polybag and are allowed to grow
every day and produces flowers. These polybags were then arranged in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with labels indicating the treatments. This
study consist of four treatments replicated three times with five plants. The treatments are as follows T0- control; T1 – GA3 Application (100 ppm); T2- Muriate of
potash (10 grams) and T3- combination of T1 and T2.

Newly opened flowers were tagged indicating the date and repeatedly done at five days interval. Data on dry weight, size, moisture content, pod length and diameter,
germination capacity of the developing as well as the development of the embryo were gathered. Statistical analysis was undertaken with the use of STAR computer
software.
