RO PLANT OPERATION PROCEDURE

STEP 1 (BACKWASH)
• Check all the valves are open in the Backwash Pump
• Reduce pressure from the sand filter drum with the aid of valve

• Move the lever of the valve to Backwash (Position Number 2)

• Run the Backwash Pump 1 or Backwash Pump 2 from the panel in manual mode with the
aid of selector switch.
• Make sure to run the backwash pump for 20 minutes
- Check the color of the water in the reject water tank to assure the backwash is happening
properly
STEP 2 (RINSE)
• Shut down the backwash pump from the panel with the aid of selector switch.

• Release pressure from the sand filter drum with the aid of valve.

• Move the lever of the valve to Rinse (Position Number 3).

• Start Filter Feed Pump 1 or Filter Feed Pump 2 from the panel in manual mode with the aid
of selector switch OR Start the Backwash Pump 1 or Backwash Pump 2 from the panel in
manual mode with the aid of selector switch.

• Make sure to run the pump for 15 minutes.

• Stop the pump from the panel with the aid of selector switch

STEP 3 (FLUSHING)
• Check the valves of the flushing tank and the flushing pump.

• Check the level of water in the tank. (The water in the tank is filled automatically as the tank
has float valve installed in it. In case the float valve malfunctions, use the valve mentioned
below to fill the water in the tank manually)
• Start the Flushing Pump from the Panel in manual mode with the aid of switch.

• Make sure to run the pump for 10 miuntes.

• Stop the pump from the panel with the aid of selector switch.
STEP 4 (FILTERATION)
• Release the pressure from the sand filter drum with the aid of the valve.

• Move the lever of the valve to Filtration (Position Number 1).

• Start the Filter Feed Pump Number 1 or Filter Feed Pump Number 2 in manual mode with the
aid of selector switch from the panel.

• Shift all the Pumps in the panel to AUTO once the pressure reaches 2 bar in the pressure guage
connected to the filter feed pump.

ADJUSTMENTS
• PRE-CHLORINE DOSING PUMP
It is used to remove the bacteria or disinfect the water. The range the PRE-CHLORINE
DOSING PUMP should be set to 20 – 20. Increasing the dosing of the chlorine will result in
the increase of odor and also increase the ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential).
• SULPHURIC ACID DOSING PUMP
It is used to reduce the fouling smell of the water. The range of the SULPHURIC ACID
DOSING PUMP should be set to (5 – 25). Increasing the dosing will result in the decrease of
the pH level of the water. Check the pH level of the water from the valve at the end of the
membrane. The pH range should be between 6 – 6.5. Incase the pH is lower, reduce the dosing.

• SMBS (Sulphur Meta Bi-Sulphate) DOSING PUMP

It is used to decrease the ORP. The range of the SMBS DOSING PUMP should be (50 – 60).
The range of the ORP should always be below 300mV.

• ANTISCALANT DOSING PUMP

It is used to remove the scaling formed within the membrane. The range of the
ANTISCALANT DOSING PUMP should be set to (50 – 50).
• POST CHLORINE DOSING PUMP
It is used to remove bacteria and algae from the product water. The range of the POST
CHLORINE DOSING PUMP should be set to (10 – 25). Increase in post chlorine will result
in change of smell. Check the smell of product water from the valve in the membrane.

• POST CAUSTIC SODA DOSING PUMP

It is used to increase the pH level of water. The range of the POST CAUSTIC SODA DOSING
PUMP should be set to (50 – 50). The pH of water should be in the range of 7 – 7.5. Check
the pH of water from the product water from the valve in the membrane.

ROUTINE CHECKUP TIPS

• CARTRIDGE FILTER
Use the differential pressure approach to check the quality of cartridge filter. If the difference
between the inlet and the outlet pressure exceed 1 bar, change the cartridge filter.
• HROTOMETER
- Shows the current product water capacity

- Shows the current reject water capacity

- Shows the current reject water being recycled capacity

• RAW WATER LEVEL

Check the level of raw water in the tank and in case the level is low, start the borewell to fill
the water in the tank

• SOLUTION TO PLANT TRIPPING

If the plant trips while running, shut down the main breaker from the panel and then restart
the whole plant in auto. This is a normal issue being faced in every site.
