Environmental Risk and Behavior Factors to Diarrhea Occurrence in the Community of

ABSTRACT
Unhealthy environment and behavior could be the cause of environmental-based
illnesses such as diarrhea. Behavior included knowledge, attitudes, and actions. The environment included water supply facilities, family toilet facilities, temporary waste disposal facilities, and sewerage system. This study conducted to analyze the relationship between environment and behavior to the diarrhea cases in Tanjung Sari village This research used case control approach. The population of this research was all residents of Tanjung Sari Village who diagnosed diarrhea by Tanjung Sari Public Health Center and not diarrhea patient. The samples were 55 respondents for case group and 55 respondents for control group. The research instrument was questionnaire and checklist form. Data analysis used was univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using chi-square test. The results explained no relationship between knowledge to the incidence of diarrhea (p value 1.000). There was no relationship between attitude to diarrhea occurrence (p value 0.085). There was a relationship between the action to the incidence of diarrhea (p value 0.034) and the value of OR = 2.467. There was no correlation between physical condition of water facilities to diarrhea occurrence (p value 0.701). There was no correlation between physical condition of family toilet facilities to diarrhea occurrence (p value 1.000). There was a relationship between physical condition of temporary waste disposal facility to diarrhea occurrence (p value 0.021) and OR value = 3.000. There was a relationship between sewerage condition to diarrhea occurrence (p value 0.021) and OR = 2,655. It is advisable for Tanjung Sari Public Health Center to increase the frequency of environmental sanitation inspection doing by health workers, improve the qualities of waste management and sewerage system.
