The Success Story
Ramon See Ang came from a poor family in Tondo, Manila. The only source of
income they had before was the small business of his late father that I mentioned before
in his autobiography. That is why he become a resourceful and hardworking teenager.
He recognizes poverty as a factor that ignited his robust qualities as person. during that
time, his parents was not capable to send him to school, so he decided to become a
working student to help his parents fund his college school. He also helps his father in
their small business and there he was exposed to different people. He really loves fixing
engines and it was his dream to collect vintage and luxury vehicles. He took mechanical
engineering in Far Eastern University to fulfill his big and ambitious dreams.

When he graduated in college, he finds a job but subsequently, after he earned a

small amount of money, he started to buy and sell (trade) second hand engine and
vehicle parts. He manages his small business with his dedication and strong passion.
Not knowing that because of his business, he will meet car-racing aficionado and ex-
Congressman Mark Cojuanco who introduced him to his father who is known to be a
vintage car lover Ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr. They become close
friends and later give him a great opportunity. Cojuangco made him manager of his
Northern Cement business, where he excelled with entrepreneurial vigor. After the 1986
EDSA uprising, when the Cojuangcos were in exile, he honestly and loyally managed
Northern Cement while others shunned or even stole from them. Cojuangco eventually
returned, retook control of SMC and entrusted its management to him, who made it
more successful.

He dramatically changed SMC from a beer and foods firm into one of Asia’s
biggest, diversified multinational conglomerates. Cojuangco eventually chose him as his
successor and sold the bulk of his SMC shares to him.
He continued his legacy of bringing bright ideas in many kinds of industry and
today, from its original business of beer, food and packaging of about P100 billion sales
revenue a year, he brings his company into diversified setting in 2008 into a company
that now has interests in oil and petrochemicals, power, infrastructure, properties, and
banking. Today his company is earning P900 billion in revenues.

During his speech in Far Eastern University, he said that they continue to expand
their feeds, flour, feed-mill, piggery, chicken-dressing plants and ready-to-eat products,

also mentioned that they owned Petron, which has the largest network of gas stations in
the Philippines and a growing network in Malaysia. They also become the largest
