Standard of drawing lines

The drawing lines are always following a specific standard. For consistency the following is the
standard we are following during the semester work of Engineering Drawing. To maintain the
thicknesses of the lines we need to use the same pressure while drawing the line. One of the
ways to use the same 0.5mm pencil to draw a heavy and light line is my increasing and reducing
the pressure on the pencil while drawing. For convenience we shall use the higher pressure to
draw the solid lines that are used to represent visible edges (Par Outlines) and the lower
pressure to draw thin (section line) , dashed (Hidden line) and center lines.

Please kindly follow the standard dimensions of the lines noted in red. The dimension of the
size of the dashes and consequently the gap (which is known as the scale of the line) is always a
factor of the size of the drawing. Bigger drawings tend to have bigger line scales than small
drawings. For convenience you may follow the suggested scales denoted in red which will cover
most of the scales of the assigned drawings.
