Introduction

Our world today is mostly populated by “techy” persons or simply, they are
“technologically inclined.” They have a great part in our fast-changing society. Unlike in
the past, people are not easily connected with each other. They make mails or some ways
to communicate but today, people can easily connect with each through the use of the
Internet. For a person to connect with other people through the means of Internet, a
person needs to use social media applications like facebook, twitter, messenger, Gmails,
yahoo, etc. These applications play a great part in connecting of person to person. Internet
is one of the most influential things in this world, for it helps the whole human race be
connected.

What is Internet?

“The Father of the Internet”

We can’t give the credit to only person for the invention of the Internet, Nikola
Tesla toyed with the idea of a “world wireless system” in the early 1900s, and visionary
thinkers like Paul Otlet and Vannevar Bush conceived of mechanized, searchable storage
systems of books and media in the 1930s and 1940s. Still, the first practical schematics for
the Internet would not arrive until the early 1960s, when MIT’s J.C.R. Licklider
popularized the idea of an “Intergalactic Network” of computers. 1 But, computer
scientists give the most credit to Vinton Gray Cerf the “Father of the Internet”, Cerf was
born June 23, 1943 in New Haven, Connecticut, U.S. He developed Transmission Control
Protocol and Internet Protocol, or TCP/IP, a communications model that set standards
for how data could be transmitted between multiple networks.
Internet Relation to Physics

First of all, you need to consider that the Internet is at one level a physical
thing. It is made of a collection of servers, clients, routers, switches, and the like, all of
which are typically metal and plastic boxes full of electronic components. Within these

boxes of course you have the physics of semiconductors, power supplies, etc. These boxes
are connected to each other by physical things also: metallic wires, glass and plastic fiber-
optics, radio waves, microwaves. There you have the physics of electromagnetics, optics,
etc. Let's not forget satellites, they're in there too! So we have the physics of orbits and
relativity. There are trillions of physical components to the Internet, and they are each
made of high-tech materials using modern science.2

Internet in connection to the Seminary Formation

One of the pillars of the Seminary formation is the Academic Life. For without it,
seminarians will have a difficult time and big problem engaging with the people of God.
Therefore, seminary formation provides and gives the best and quality education for
seminarians to be well-informed and well-learned not only philosophically and
theologically but also regarding the whole human being itself. Henceforth, the seminary
formation adjusts and cope up to the fast-changing society which is technologically
advanced. Aside from using books, journals etc., the seminary formation also make use
of the internet to ease the way of studying such as making thesis, reliable communication
and helpful researching etc.

Internet in connection to the Priestly Vocations

Priests have many great roles in the society. They are the ones who proclaim the Word of
God, do good to other people, saving souls based on the Catholic Church teachings.
Saints before had a hard time spreading the Word of God. Some suffered martyrdom,
persecutions, wrong accusations etc. Those saints sacrifice their whole selves for God by
doing the Will of Him. Priesthood will not be always easy. It must be entailed with love,
time and effort. Moreover, Priesthood is always guided by the Triune God. The most
common and obvious mission of a priest is to celebrate mass. Aside from that, priests are
also to save souls and proclaim the Word of God. The question is how can priests fulfill
their mission? Perhaps there are many ways but one of the most effective ways is through
evangelization. Evangelization must be always directed and grounded in the Name of
Our Lord Jesus Christ, for without Him there is no true Evangelization. A large number

of priests are used to evangelize orally. However, Internet can be used as a way to
evangelize the people of God and nowadays, some offices organizations and Churches
of the Catholic Church use the Internet to evangelize. Because of Internet, priests find
another way to tell the people how God loves them and teach catechesis for the people to
understand what the Church is telling about.
The Wrong Use of Internet

Nowadays, fake news, pornographic photo, bullying and other immoral activities
happen. Internet is somehow used to be a weapon hurting and tricking others rather than
to utilize it well. Advanced users use the internet just for their own desires and pleasures
which is very alarming. Because the incorrect use of Internet may cause suicides,
depressions, unbecoming attitudes especially on children and addiction etc. Moreover,
getting data from other people using internet is prohibited by the law and it is
distinguished as a crime. Plagiarism and other incidents like cyber-bullying, hacking
scams etc. are one of the considered crime by the law.
