Project Week

Starting Date: Tuesday, September, 3rd

Submission Date: Thursday, September, 5th

Product: YouTube Video

Project Type: Individual Group

Global Context: Scientific and technical innovations

Statement of Inquiry: Technical Innovations provide many creative opportunities

for language learning.

Key Concept: Creativity

Task: Creating a YouTube video about a language learning app by (1) analyzing the
features of it and (2) identifying its special functions.
Analyze: When we analyze something, we learn about its different parts and their relationships.

Identify: When we identify something, we can describe briefly what makes it different.
Instruction: Please follow the steps carefully:
Tuesday:
Session 1:
1- Below, you can see a list of language learning apps. Choose one of them and
download it on your mobile phone. (15 minutes)
- Duolingo
- Memrise
- Busuu
- Rosetta Stone
- Flashacademy
- Triplingo
- Babble

2- Work with the app for a few minutes like a real user. Explain what you tried
on the app and how you feel about using it. (20 minutes)
Note: Keep your notes and information either on paper or electronically. You will
need them.
Session 2:
3- After you have familiarized yourself with the app, try to answer the following
questions: (20 minutes)
- What does this app do?
- Is it a paid app or free?
- What are the features?
- How many languages are available to learn on the app?
- Who is this app built for? Young learners? Adults? Travelers?
Businesspeople?
- Which language skills does the app focus on? Reading? Writing? Speaking?
Listening? Vocabulary? Grammar? All?
- What is the best feature of the app?

4- Now use your notes from number three and write a descriptive paragraph
about the app in 100-150 words (20 minutes)
Note: Keep your notes and information either on paper or electronically. You will
need them.
Wednesday:
Session 1:
1- Do a research to learn about the founder/s of the app. We need the
following information: Name, age, nationality, job and their businesses,
interests, and add any other interesting information about them. (15
minutes)

2- At this stage, do a research and find out more about the review and rating of
the app on the internet. (20 minutes) We need to find out:

- What are the positive opinions about the app?

- What are the negative opinions about the app?

Session 2:
1- Review all your findings about the app, the founder, and users’ reviews and
ratings. Now, write down your own opinion about the app. When you want
to write your opinion, remember that you want to INFORM other users
about an app. So, you need to be honest and precise. (15 minutes)

2- If you have followed all the steps, now you have a lot of notes and
information. It is the time to plan to create your YouTube video.

- In what order do you want to present the information?

- Do you want to be in your video? Or your voice?
- Do you want to use a video maker app?
- Can you make an animation?
- How can you make your video interesting to the viewers?
- How can you make sure your grammar and vocabulary are both correct?
Note: Keep your notes and information either on paper or electronically. You will
need them.

Thursday
Session 1 and 2: Make your video! Try to upload the final work on YouTube before
Tuesday so that we can watch them in our class together and exchange ideas
about them.
