The effect of celery juice (Apium graveolens L.

) to the level SGPT

Experimental study on male white rats wistar strain induced by paracetamol

ABSTRACT

Background:Paracetamol is a popular antiseptic and analgesic, but if excessive it can

be toxic to the liver. As a treatment effort can be used traditional hepatoprotection plants using
celery leaves (Apium graveolens L.). As an effort to the treat it, traditional plants can be used
as hepatoprotection using celery leaves (Apium graveolens L.). This study aims to determine
the effect of celery leaf juice on decreasing SGPT levels induced by high-dose paracetamol.
Methods:This experimental study with a post test only control group design used 24
male white wistar rats divided into 6 groups. The positive control group was given aquadest,
treatment group I, II, and III was given celery leaf juice 0,009; 0,018; and 0,036 g/200gBB for
13 days, the next day a single dose of paracetamol 1,8ml was induced. SGPT levels were
measured using a spectrophotometer. One Way Annova and post hoc LSD tests were used to
determine difference between groups
Results:The average level of groups 51,7±11,3; 49,1±9,4; 39,3±5,8 dan 45,5±11,2 in
sequence is. One Way Annova test obtained significant results (p<0,05). post hoc LSD test
showed that there were significant differenct in group I with groups II, III and IV (p<0,05).
Conclusion:The conclusion of this study is that celery leaf juice has an effect on
reducing SGPT levels in wistar white rats induced by high-dose paracetamol.
