ESPLink for PC

4 DATA PAGE

The Data Page allows you to access data. When sample data is
collected by the ESPLink Surface Monitor it is held in the device's
memory in distinct packages called "jobs". Using the ESPLink
software these jobs can be downloaded, one at a time, to create
data files on the computer. Once data has been downloaded into a
data file on your computer, it can be viewed at any time using
ESPLink, without the need to reconnect to the device.

The ESPLink Data Page consists of buttons available on the right

side of the page for retrieving data from a device, reading data files
or erasing jobs from the device's memory. The following sections
provide further information on using the Data Page of the ESPLink
software

4.1 Downloading Data

4.1.1 Default File Naming Convention

To assist you in identifying the contents of downloaded data files

ESPLink automatically generates a unique file name, which follows
the data file naming convention used by ESPLink. The default file
5
MANU-0024 (R01)

name for a data file starts with the surface monitor serial number
and the job number followed by the current date and time. For
example, if you were to download the second job from the surface
monitor with a serial number of PCAA00001 at 1:22 PM on the first
day of the year 2015, the following file name would be created:

PCAA00001-Job2@Jan01,2015,1322.rec

4.1.2 Downloading Data

Sample data collected by an ESPLink Surface Monitor is held in the

device's memory in distinct packages called "jobs". By using the
ESPLink software these jobs can be downloaded, one at a time, to
create data files on the computer. These data files can then be read
and viewed at any time using ESPLink without the need to connect
to the device again.

When you download a job, you are transferring a set of data from
the device memory to a file on your computer's hard drive. The
data file is given a default filename in your working directory, but
you can change the filename or directory prior to saving.

The saved data file is a standard ASCII text file, which can be viewed
in any text editor (such as Notepad)

To download data from an ESPLink Surface Monitor:

1) Connect the ESPLink Surface Monitor to your computer

using a USB cable.

2) Start the ESPLink software to automatically connect to the

device or click the Connect New Tool button at the top of
the main window to establish communication.

3) Click the Download button to display a list of all jobs in the

memory of the connected device.

4) The following Data Download window will appear. This

window displays a list of the current jobs on the device, the
estimated number of samples and start time of each job.
