thrives mainly on agriculture.
The municipality has undergone
several crisis and one of which
was the Guinsaugon landslide in
2006. Although the event was
tragic, it brought about lessons
learned and most of all people
became capacitated and
resilient to face future tests. Its
people are proud of the town’s
natural endowments for tourism,
farming and fishing. In line with
the administration’s vision of
economic development through
tourism and empowerment, the
birth of Umadagat began in
2008 – celebrating years of
struggle, hope and survival not
only of the landslide-affected
communities but the entire
municipality. The term
UMADAGAT is coined from
‘uma’ which means to farm, and
‘dagat’ means sea, which is the
main source for fishing.
