Business Communication Assignment
The lights were off and there was pin drop silence. An old man with a grey beard wearing a
turban entered the stage shouting “Simon go back” in the backdrop of Indian parliament, The
audience was lured into the play, this set the mood for the entire play. Then the protagonist of
the play, Bhagat Singh enters the scene amidst all the security put in place to stop him who
was in the disguise of an old man as mentioned above. The lighting made sure that the focus
is only on the protagonist, the perfect orchestration of lighting made sure that the emotion of
the actor has conveyed aptly, a mix of incandescent, blue and red lights were used to
showcase different emotions. The same kind of lighting effects could be observed in
Godse@Gandhi.com, The only play that lacked such effects was “Ram-Leela”.
One common factor that could be observed in all the three plays were the usage of props. Be
it the sticks in Gandhi@Godse.com, or the use of flags that were used in Pagadi Sambhal
Jatta to demonstrate the protest. The props were used aptly where required. One could
observe that a lot of big props like beds and mattresses were also used in
Gandhi@Godse.com.
Going by the saying “Voice can paint what the eyes can’t see”, the artists in Pagadi Sambhal
Jatta used the right voice modulation to convey their emotions. It was very eminent that none
of the actors used a microphone to talk during their play. The voice of the artists could be
heard by every member of the audience and the silence in the arena also helped the cause.
The actor who played Baghat Singh, in particular, had a great timber, tone, and resonance.
Overall all the artists had good pace and rhythm which was very pleasing to the ears.
As we know the audience engagement is one of the most important aspects in a theatrical
play, one can confidently say that the audience we engrossed through out the play in both
Godse@Gandhi.com and Pagadi Sambhal Jatta, but in the play Ram-Leela, the audience
started getting restless towards the end of the play.
Asmita group in both their plays ensured that they had volunteers around the college to
ensure that silence was maintained. The volunteers from Asmita group made sure that there
was silence maintained throughout the event. Each member from the group was assigned
different tasks, Some of them co-ordinated the actors, some were given photography and
some controlled the audience. Each member of the team performed their job at utmost
sincerity, this displayed their team effort and the cohesiveness among the group.
Although the actors prepare according to the script, when another actor calls for a premise,
one has to improvise. One such incident could be observed in Pagadi Sambhal Jatta. The
policeman had to offer a cigarette to the protagonist of the play Baghat Singh, But Baghat
Singh starts his dialog before he is offered a cigarette. The policeman immediately recognizes
the mistake by his colleague and changes his dialogue accordingly.
In a nutshell, the play was able to communicate the entire life history of Baghat Singh and his
beliefs. The theater group was able to communicate that the ideologies of the protagonist
were well ahead of his time. As a student of business communication, the major takeaways
from the play are, the influence of body language and gesture on self-expression. The play
also showed the importance of communication in a team, any gap within the team could lead
to crisis communication.
