Subreddit R - Bitcoin Hits The Milestone of 1 Million Subscribers PDF
One of the most popular and dedicated communities of
Bitcoin(BTC) over the internet subreddit “r/Bitcoin” has hit the
mark of one million subscribers mark, as per the post from the
community moderator “ibelite” on December 2.
The widely popular community was founded in September 2010,
nearly two years after the release of BTC white paper. The subreddit
reached the milestone amidst the market slump beginning on
November 14, after the controversial hard fork of Bitcoin Cash into
Bitcoin ABC and Bitcoin SV/
The description of the subreddit reads the community is “dedicated
to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed,
worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and
managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no
government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be
interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed
peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin
enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political
philosophies are welcome.”
After a while the alternate subreddit “r/btc” was created in order
“to foster and support free and open Bitcoin discussion” as a
response to the allegations that the “r/Bitcoin” community
members are involved in censoring against particular themes,
primarily on the debate over block size of the blocks of blockchain.
One user “theymos” also a moderator of “r/Bitcoin” and one of the
figures in the center of the controversy has also defended the
alleged censorship by saying that “posts about anything especially
emotionally-charged [such as the about the block size debate] will
be deleted unless they introduce some very substantial new ideas
about the subject.”
One other dissenting redditor, whose post received around 89%
upvote, countered this explanation stating “How is the Bitcoin
community supposed to build consensus to do a hard fork when the
/r/bitcoin mods ban any discussion of a hard fork proposal that
does not have consensus?”
Leading face behind the hard fork of BTC, Roger Ver tweeted saying
that “r/Bitcoin” is alleged “completely censored and has been for
nearly 3 years now.”
At press time “r/btc” has around 231,000 subscribers.
