RESEARCH PROJECT

IDENTIFYING STEM-BASED
RESEARCH PROBLEMS
OBJECTIVES:
- Identify a scientific problem or
question.
- Differentiate between applied
problem and basic research
problem.
- Present a written statement of
the STEM-based problem.
2
Researches based on the science, technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM) track are conducted primarily to . . . .
1. produce new scientific knowledge;
2. come up with new and innovative technological products,
devices and processes;
3. create cost-effective designs and structures, and;
4. solve real-world problems using engineering tools.

3
SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH is a methodological or systematic endeavor
aimed at generating new ideas, developing creative design and processes,
finding solutions to real-life situations and challenges, and producing
technology-based devices and products.

4
1. Systematic – research process
2. Logical – induction/deduction
3. Empirical – evidence based
4. Reductive – generalisation
5. Replicable – methodology

REVIEW OF RELATED
LITERATURE
AN EFFECTIVE REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
 The scope of previous studies has ben identified and defined
including ethical issues and concerns.
 The various approaches and methodologies applied to past
research problems in line with a given field of study has been
described, including their advantages and disadvantages.
 The limitations of the previous studies’ chosen approaches are
acknowledged, and the questions that still need to be addressed are
highlighted.
 An assertion that pursuing the study will greatly contribute to
bridging a gap to field of interest has been stated, thus adding new data
to the existing body of knowledge.
