II. OVERVIEW

History of the Barangay:

The Barangay was created through a City resolution No. 776 dated June 5,
1964 and was signed by then Mayor of Cebu, Sergio Osmeña, Jr. The name Sta.
Cruz was derived from the Holy Cross of Jesus, whose feast day is celebrated by the
Catholic devotees every 3rd day of May (in the old Church calendar).

Description of Barangay Location:

Barangay Sta. Cruz is located at the heart of the city adjacent to Fuente
Osmeña circle, the very prominent land mark. Barangay Sta. Cruz is 26 hectares.
The geographical position lies on the West boundary road the Osmeña Blvd. (Jones
Avenue) where the neighboring barangays are Sambag I and Sambag II. In the North
or upper part is the Fuente Osmeña Circle and Mango Avenue where brgy. Capitol
and Brgy. Camputhaw are our neighbors. In the East side is the F. Ramos Street
meeting Mango Avenue where the neighboring Barangay is Cogon Central Ramos. In
the South side the R.R. Landon and Junquera Streets is where brgy. San Antonio is
located.

How Far is it?

For an accurate description, it takes 10 to 15 minutes from the port area or


City Hall vicinity to reach Brgy. Sta. Cruz when taking a jeepney on a regular traffic
flow.

III. ECONOMY

Majority of the people belong to the working force. There are many business
establishments within the barangay engaged in commerce like restaurants,
hotels department stores, offices, banks to name a few. Brgy. Sta. Cruz can be
classified as a commercial and residential district in real estate.
