COMPRESSED DRY AIR SPECIFICATIONS

Dryer Technology
1. Drying is accomplished by refrigeration technology; water vapor condensate is drained off.
2. Water and oil is adsorbed by granular material; may be recharged with air or heat.
3. Industry standards include activated alumina, silica gel and molecular sieves.
4. Compressed air, saturated with water vapor, flows through a bundle of tube-shaped
membranes and is permeated through the membrane wall and vents to atmosphere.
5. Filtration system other than desiccant; trapped water and oils is drained off.

Air Drying Specifications

1. Drying Capacity is maximum volume of air through dryer; typically given at 100 psig.
2. Maximum rated inlet pressure of dryer.
3. Dew point is a measure of dryness; it describes how much water vapor is present and tells us
how cold the compressed air can get before liquid water will form.
4. Motor horsepower is a reference value often used to approximate dryer size; pressure and
capacity are the differentiating specifications.
5. This is the full required range of ambient operating temperature.
Desiccant Dryer Specifications
1. Compressed air goes through one drying cycle only. Air is dried twice in successive stages.
2. By means of expanding cold dry air to near atmospheric pressure inside the regeneration tower,
the dryer air picks up moisture from the saturated desiccant bed and is then purged to
atmosphere.
3. Process air enters the dryer through the inlet piping, is then dried as it passes through the
desiccant bed, and discharges through the outlet piping as dry air.
4. Regeneration of the desiccant is accomplished at atmospheric pressure, using steam or electric
heaters, embedded in the desiccant bed.
5. Process air enters the dryer through the inlet piping, is then dried as it passes through the
desiccant bed, and discharges through the outlet piping as dry air.
6. Reactivation is accomplished using a reactivation blower or a cooler.

Power Source
1. Includes simple filters and membrane systems.
2. Direct current power, either battery or line supply.
3. Typical single phase configurations include 115V/60Hz and 230V/50Hz. Three phase
configurations include 208V and 377V.

Features
1. Gauge for monitoring pressure; includes dial or digital readout.
2. Filter for mechanical trapping of moisture, oil, smoke, etc.
3. This feature automatically senses the level or amount of removed moisture and automatically
drains it off.

PRPOCUCTION EQUIPMENT

CUTTING AND MARKING

Inside the shoe factory, the first operations in the manufacturing process are the cutting and marking
operations. The factory will need cutting presses, also called clicker cutting machines. The clicker press is
one of the standard pieces you will see in every shoe factory. These cutting presses require cutting
dies for each shoe pattern part.
STITCHING

Once the parts are ready and sorted into assembly kits, it is time for stitching. The basic electric sewing
machine does the bulk of the heavy lifting. With the stitching processes broken down into many smaller
operations, the workers quickly master their specific tasks.

ASSEMBLY

With the shoe ready for assembly it is time to bring out the heavy equipment. The basic assembly line is
about 100 yards long. On the front of the line, find a steamer to soften the shoe uppers, preparing them
for lasting. The lasting machines are used to get the uppers pulled down tight onto the shoe lasts.

PRIMER AND CEMENT

The lasted uppers and outsoles are on the conveyor line together, each receiving two coats each
of primer and cement. After each application, the parts are placed back on the line to travel through a
heat tunnel to dry the parts. Once the parts are fully primed and covered with cement it is time to join
the parts together. A worker takes the upper and sole in-hand, fitting them together. Once the parts are
fit, a pressing operation ensures the bonding surfaces are completely in contact.

PRESSING

The pressing operation compresses the bottom, sides, and heel of the sole and upper together. To set
the bond, the lasted upper with the bottom attached is often placed in a chiller unit. Once out of the
chiller unit, the shoe is de-lasted by hand or by machine.
