Pangan vs.

Ramos

Facts:

Santa Paangan filed a motion to cite Atty. Dionisio Ramos for contempt, as they found out in the motion
for postponement filed by the latter for the hearing of the administrative cases against him. The basis
that he used for the said motion was he had a case set for hearing before the Court of First Instance of
Manila entitled People vs. Marieta Isip. However, upon verification it appears that the Attorney of record
for the said case is one Atty. Pedro D.D. Ramos with office address at 306 Doña Salud Bldg. Dasmariñas,
Manila .

Upon confrontation Atty. Ramos states that he has the right to use the said name because his full name
as appeared in his birth certificate is Pedro Dionisio D. Ramos. He also avers that D.D stands for Dionisio
as his second name while the other D stands for Dayaw as his mother’s maiden name.

Issue:

Whether or not the act of Atty. Ramos is correct

Ruling:

No, because his act is untenable as it can be resorted as deception, because the attorney’s roll or register
is the official record containing the names and signatures of those who are authorized to practice law.
Also, a lawyer is not authorized to use name other than the one inscribed in the Roll of Attorneys in his
practice of law. It shall also be noted that official oath obliges the attorney to swear to do no falsehood,
because, as an officer of the temple of justice an attorney has an irrefragable obligations of truthfulness,
candor and frankness which will characterize the conduct of the lawyer of every stage.
