grammatically incorrect "Firstly, IT IS TO IMPROVE THE
PRODUCT TO THE EYEit , and this is achieved via the use of

Should be reworded to state to make the product more
appealing to the eyes of the consumers.

You would probably struggle to know information about
every single topic. However, you can increase your
knowledge by looking through IELTS questions and
seeing what kinds of topics come up. Then read about
them and look at model essays to develop knowledge
and ideas.

It is quite possible though a topic comes up that you do

not know much about. You will then just have to
brainstorm ideas and do you best. Remember your
actual ideas are only part of the marking - organisation,
grammar, vocab etc make up a great deal of it.

I think when you claim that "the potential dangers from this are
greater than the benefits we receive." you have to discuss
about the disadvantages more than advantages in the second
paragraph.

If you want you could write a shorter first body
paragraph and then maybe two paragraphs on the
disadvantages.

In the essay in this case however, 'greater' does not

necessarily mean 'number' as in quantity, but greater
as in effecting people's health does not justify making
the food look good and helping companies to make
profit. This is made quite clear in the conclusion too.

decide what your essay is about: it is just about
advantages, or it is just about disadvantages, or it is
about both of them. When you decide to discuss about
both of them, you have to show the readers that
advantages are more than disadvantages or
disadvantages are more than advantages. you have to
have your clear view. after all, your essay has helped

that to get a good mark'. If you check the IELTS public
band descriptors you'll see that it does not say that.

However, yes you do have to have a clear point of view

and make sure the essay supports that, and a simple
way to do that is as you say - state that there are more
advantages and then provide more advantages in your
essay than disadvantages. That is fine and it is a good
way to do it (I often teach it that way too).

But that does not mean it is the only way. This essay
clearly gives the opinion that the worse thing that can
be done is to endanger people's health, and that
company profits and making the food look good do not
compensate for these negative effects. Thus the
disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

Yes, why not? Check out the IELTS public band
descriptors. There is nothing to specify that it must go
in the introduction or conclusion - it's your choice.
There is nothing wrong with putting it upfront. That
actually makes things much clearer as the person
reading it then knows at the outset what your view is.
There should not be any confusion then when reading
your essay.
