ACT I
Scene 1
Lights up on a typical room in a typical home.
There are couches, a TV, and a coffee table. On
the couches are 4 high schoolers: PEGGY, IAN,
DAVID, and LUCY.
DAVID
(agitated)
When are they gonna get here?
PEGGY
(trying to keep calm)
They didn’t say.

DAVID
What do we do! We can’t just sit here with Owen...
PEGGY
(failing to keep calm)
Yes, we can! That’s exactly what we’re going to do.
We’re going to sit here and wait.
DAVID
Just sit and wait with a murderer?! And don’t tell me
it wasn’t, because a knife in the back looks like a
murder to me.

IAN
Could you just wait until the police come, please?
DAVID
No! I want to figure this out. I owe it to him. The
windows and doors were locked, right Peggy?
PEGGY
(Through gritted teeth)
Yes.

LUCY
(On the verge of tears)
David, could you please stop.
DAVID
You’re only saying that because you killed him!
PEGGY
What is wrong with you, shut up!
3.

DAVID
She’s the only one who could have done it. Owen was in
the bathroom for twenty minutes, during which time
everybody, including myself, got up from watching the
movie to go to the bathroom.

PEGGY
That doesn’t prove anything. The way you’re handling
this makes it feel like you killed him.
DAVID
Yes, but Lucy has a motive. She was cheating on Owen.
She wanted to get out of that relationship but didn’t
know how.
PEGGY
(Horrified)
Lucy. Is this true?
LUCY
(Shouting, to DAVID)
I was cheating on Owen with you, David. Don’t act like
you’re all high and mighty.

PEGGY
Oh my god.
DAVID
Yea, but I know that I didn’t kill Owen so it must be
you.
PEGGY
It’s looking like you’re the killer, David. Always
pointing fingers, trying to talk so you look innocent.

DAVID
That’s not true you know it. From the way you’re
acting, it looks like you’re the killer.
PEGGY
(Getting progressively more and more
angry)
You’re just pointing fingers.
DAVID
(Getting angrier with PEGGY)
Every time you speak it looks more like you
PEGGY
(Shouting)
Just shut up and wait for the cops to come
4.

DAVID
(Shouting)
When they come they’ll just take you away
In the heat of the moment, PEGGY takes a knife out
of her pocket, followed instantly by DAVID and IAN
tackling PEGGY and the knife falling out of her
hand.
IAN
Lucy, get a chair and some rope so that we can tie her
up.
Lucy leaves, in a daze, and comes back with a
chair and some rope.
PEGGY
Please stop it, I didn’t kill Owen.
LUCY
(Angrily and sarcasticly)
Yea, and you didn’t try to kill Owen either.

IAN
David, help me tie her up.
They drag PEGGY onto the chair and tie her up.
IAN
I think we need more rope.
DAVID
I know where to get some. Follow me.

LUCY
(Furious, sad, and confused)
How could you! You killed Owen. Did you think that it
would make me happier? Did you hate him? Did you want
to get me for something? Why’d you do it?

PEGGY
(Pleading)
I didn’t.
LUCY
Then why’d you pull the knife on David?
