Waiter Job Description

In addition to offering delicious food to customers, a restaurant's success also


depends on its staff of waiters. Waiters do more than merely take orders from
patrons. Most of their tasks require a good memory and multitasking skills.

Know the Menu


o Waiters must be familiar with all of the items on the menu. Learning
the ingredients of dishes as well as the price range will also be
beneficial in helping the patron with a meal selection.

Care for Patrons


o Waiters must keep drinks filled and make sure that the patrons enjoy
the meal.

Take Orders
o Waiters must be able to write down patrons' orders, specialize dishes,
if requested, and transmit the information to the kitchen staff.

Collect Money
o Waiters are responsible for preparing the check and collecting the
money from the patrons in a timely manner.

Food Preparation
o Some waiters are expected to help with food preparation. Such tasks
as preparing salads, portioning desserts and brewing coffee are often
added to a waiters' daily routine.
