Dating Apps That Actually Work

Posted by Arch on August 5, 2019

Dating Apps That Actually Work
The market is saturated with dating apps that claim to be the best or most
successful. However, many of them fold and fall into obscurity quickly after they
launch. There are also those that have been around for a long time, but youve
never actually heard of anyone who met a date or a long-term partner on them.

However, there are dating apps that are doing it right and are successful in
bringing people together. Lets take a look at the dating apps that actually work.

Your Next Date Might Be a Swipe Away
Tinder was introduced back in 2012 and has quickly grown into one of the biggest
and most influential dating apps out there. It is available on both iOS and Android
platforms, and theres also a web-based version. More than 50 million people
regularly use Tinder.

Tinder

What launched Tinder into the stratosphere was the then-innovative concept of
swiping on potential matches. Also, it was one of the first apps of its kind
oriented towards hook-ups instead of long-term relationships.

Tinder is very simple to use and has a clean, intuitive layout. It is also good in
protecting its users from unsolicited messages and spammers, as people you havent
matched with cant message you.

BUMBLE
Bumble was founded by Whitney Wolfe Herd after she parted ways with Tinder. The app
was launched in December 2014. Android and iOS apps are available, but you can also
access the app via the official web site.

Bumble works similar to Tinder, but what sets it apart is the way it handles
matches. For example, if theres a match between a man and a woman, only the female
participant can start the conversation. She has to do so in 24 hours after the
match or the match is lost. Optionally, both sides can invoke a 24-hour extension
of the match period. In case of a same-sex match, either party can kick off the
chat.

Bumble

Another interesting feature is the BFF mode. People can use it to look for friends
and buddies to hang out with. In the Bumble Biz mode, you can look for a new job or
even mentor someone.

OKCUPID
OkCupid is among the oldest platforms on this list. It was launched way back in
2004 and is still going strong. The website is still very popular, though there are
also Android and iOS apps.

OkCupid

On OkCupid, you are matched with other users based on a long questionnaire you have
to fill after youve created a profile. Apart from giving your answers, you can
also pick the answers youd like your potential match to give.

However, instead of directly matching you with compatible users, OkCupid will show
you a list of potential matches. You can then tap or click on Matches, and start
browsing. You can like and message people, though the latter option has shown
better results.

HER

Her started back in 2013 and quickly rose as one of the most popular dating apps
for lesbian, bisexual, and queer women. Non-binary people are also welcome.
However, cisgender men are forbidden from the platform.

At the moment of this writing, Her is available as an online website, and there are
also iOS and Android apps. The apps and the website have a very clean layout and
are easy to navigate. Dattch, the company that owns Her, claims that the platform
has over 4 million users.

In terms of features, this app offers a pretty standard package. You can match with
other users and chat with them. The platform also shares news from the LGBTQ+
world, as well as queer and lesbian events that take place in the users area.

MATCH

Match.com has been around way before smartphones. It started out as a dating
website in 1995. The platform is also available for Android and iOS. Instead of
worldwide availability, Match is limited to 25 countries.

It should be noted that Match has both free and paid versions. The first six months
of basic subscription will cost you $21 a month. Premium membership costs more, but
it also gives you the list of people who have recently checked out your profile, as
well as other perks.

Match

When you register, you will fill out a basic questionnaire about your age, gender,
and dating preferences. After that, you will get personalized matches every day,
curated by Matchs algorithm. The platform is relatively simple and it takes
minutes to get a hang of it.

HINGE
Hinge has been around since 2012 and it uses a pretty unique matching concept.
Instead of random matches with people based only on geographical proximity or a set
of matching answers to questions, Hinge matches users who have friends in common on
Facebook. It can also show you a profile of someone who is a friend of your
Facebook friends friend. Hinge is available for Android and iOS users.

When you register, you will have to swipe left or right to a series of questions to
answer Yes or No. This makes the questionnaire part that so many dating apps
have so much easier and fun to do. After that, you can start browsing.

Hinge

When you find someone you like, you can try to match with them. However, you cant
send them a message if you dont match. This prevents users from sending
unsolicited messages and pictures. The good thing about Hinge is that it matches
you with people that you have mutual friends with, and thats always a good
conversation starter. On the downside, you can quickly run out of potential
matches.

RAYA
Raya combines dating and networking features into one social platform. It is
oriented towards people working in creative industries and is pretty hard to get
into, as you cant join the platform on your own. Instead, you need to be referred
by a current member. After that, a committee will decide your fate. The reported
acceptance rate is around 8%.

Raya is available as a website and as an iOS app. As of this writing, there is

still no Android app and theres no official announcement on when it might be
coming.

Raya

Once you get in, you can use the platform to search for a date or to network. Raya
will show you a map with places and venues in your vicinity where users are
frequently hanging out. Thanks to its strict acceptance policy and strict rules,
Raya has a respectful and well-mannered community.

YOUR NEXT DATE MIGHT BE A SWIPE AWAY

Online dating sites have been around since the dawn of the internet. In the last
decade, mobile dating apps have taken over. You should opt for a platform that
appeals to your style and preferences the most and give it a shot.

Do you use dating apps? If no, would you give any app on this list a chance? If
yes, which one do you use and what are your experiences? Let us know in the
