STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE GRIHA RATING

GRIHA is work on green buildings.

Why we need green

There are many justification for the statement as we need green like for conserving resources, For
increasing efficiency of building, Reduce energy consumption without sacrificing the comfort level,
Reduce pollution load, For saving environment, To achieve real potential of our site location, For better
use of renewable resources, Reduction in blind use of resources etc.

GRIHA
GRIHA is a tool to evaluate the environmental performance of any building [GRIHA official
website].GRIHA is directly related to the sustainable. (Sustainable: causing little or no damage to the
environment).

GRIHA is gaining importance all around the world, as it discuss about the sustainable and it’s the
requirement of current scenario. The main goal of sustainable construction is to create and operate a
healthy built environment which is based on resource efficiency. There are many system to evaluate
building performance like LEED (Leadership in energy and environmental design) GRIHA (Green rating
for integrated habitat assessment) IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) among these systems I chose
GRIHA, it is more suited to Indian context. GRIHA is also comprehensive rating system designed for
India.

Building interact with environment in various manner in our whole life cycle from construction to
operation and then demolition. It consume the resources in form of energy, water, material etc. and
emit wastes directly in the form of municipal wastes or indirectly as emissions from electricity
generation, For reducing the load on environment and natural resources we need sustainability.

Green is mandatory at this time, According to Government of Haryana guidelines all the new govt.
building is to be designed with the minimum criteria 3 star GRIHA rated.

In this dissertation I discus about strategy/criteria for shaping a building which is GRIHA rated and also
discus on the strategy used in GRIHA rated buildings via case studies.
