Professional Disposition Statement

As a teacher, I believe that all students are capable of learning at different paces with

utilizing different strategies for the individual learner. I will conduct myself in a professional

manner, treating everyone equally and with respect and fairness. I will strive to always create a

caring, nurturing, and safe learning environment where all of my students will be able to

continually make individual growths, academically, socially and emotionally. I want to be a

positive influence and role model for my students.

The self-assessment supports my professional disposition statement. I chose a 5 for many

of the statements because I strongly agree with them. Actually, I only chose 4 for one statement,

and that is because I have trouble being humorous. When I think of an affective teacher, I think

of one who utilizes a variety of instructional strategies, as well as one who creates a caring and

safe learning environment for students. Throughout this program, I have realized that being a

teacher is more than simply instructing students in academic content. During observations, I

have seen a variety of teachers. Some who cared deeply for their students and some not so

much. I’m choosing to strive to be like those teachers who truly care and want to see the best for

their students, inside and outside of the classroom.

I realize that completing my degree program will not make me a great teacher. This is

something that I will always need to work towards. Students change from year to year, standards

and curriculum also change. So, it will be important to always be flexible in the classroom, as

well as to continue my own education. This will help to ensure that I am actively striving to

become a great teacher, one who is a positive influence, truly cares for all students and advocates

that all students are receiving an adequate education. This will always be a learning and growing

experience.
