The Use of Language in Each Piece
My first piece, a poem, expressed a concerned tone, which can be accurately represented by
the use of the emotive word "despair" in line 1. The poem also expressed a general mood of
melancholy for example, in the final line," And racism only leads to division and war.
The second piece, a speech, showed use of formal language throughout it, targeting a more
educated and mature audience. Emotive language was also in use throughout the piece, as
discerned at the beginning of the second paragraph by the use of the word "distraught".
Finally, the third piece, an article showed use of technical terms such as "Hiring
Discrimination" and portrayed evidence supported by notable sources such Harvard University
and the Institute for Social Research in Norway. Also, statistical data was used recurrently,
which was widely represented in the final paragraph along with the reference to extracts from
studies.
