Dilemma 3 : Abortion

There are some things to be the moral principles or values at stake based on this case, they are
religious values, social norms, human right, and financial status. How come I say that? I think all
the people can see it clearly that abortion is prohibited in every legal religion in Indonesia. In
social norms, abortion is still seen so bad to do although there is “safe abortion” term now
because it shows brutality. Human right also one that curse this decision because when the
fetus is existed, it has became a human with soul and right to have a life. And if we look on their
financial status, I think Sheila has gone too far for making a decision like this, because I think
there are many other ways to take to solve this problem.

There are 5 religions in this country, Indonesia, and I surely think that all those religions have
the same end conclusion about abortion that they will prohibit this kind of thing. In Psalm 139 :
13 & 16, it’s implied that we are formed by God’s hands within our mother’s womb and also all
the human has had their future as God has decided for everyone’s life. And if there’s a man who
do this abortion, it means he killed one soul and one future that God has made.

3 months aged fetus has been the first form of the human and on that period, the fetus can also
feel pain. It means when people do the abortion, that will torment the fetus and it will be an
offense for the fetus. The fetus also never done a mistake that will drive the fetus to be
murdered. This is not a humanity decision to end someone’s life that has had a right to have a
life. Culture says so about this. It’s like abortion action has a very bad stigma on people’s
thought because I can say again that it’s not a humanity way to solve financial problem,
because if Sheila doesn’t have enough money to live their life, she can adopt her child when
they have born. Or Sheila can also ask for the government help.

This country has also its laws of doing abortion. It said that those women who can do abortion
are those who got pregnant because of raping and when there’s emergency health status when
they are on pregnancy, so the only one way to keep the mother alive is by removing the baby.
Me as a doctor also will feel fear about that because I will also get jailed or a fine. It means the
doctor’s also disadvantaged by doing this to those who feel fear too much about the financial.

So based on the statements above, as a doctor, I will reject the demand of doing abortion
because of those reasons.
