The atmosphere is the five different layers of dense air and gases (nitrogen, oxygen,

carbon dioxide and argon) above the earth’s surface and is held together by the earth’s gravity. Each
layer has a different air density, the higher the altitude the less air density. These five components of
the atmosphere is important for sustaining life on earth because it protects us from sun rays and
ultraviolet radiation, which could cause problems such as drought; impacting the population of
different flora and fauna there for effecting the food supplies. It also could cause terrible sickness
such as skin Dieses or stroke that could potentially lead to death. The atmosphere is important for
keeping the earth’s temperature balanced in order for life to survive.

Layers of the Atmosphere

Troposphere:

 The lowest layer of the Atmosphere

 Where most weather condition takes place
 0km - 10Km above earth’s surface
 Temperature goes down as you go up

Stratosphere:

 Second layer upward

 10km – 50km above earth’s surface
 Temperature goas up as you go up
 Less clouds
 Air has little moisture

Mesosphere:

 Third layer upward

 50km – 85km above earth’s surfaces
 The coldest layer of earth’s atmosphere
 Temperature goes down as you go up
 As cold as -90° C (-130° F)

Thermosphere:

 Fourth layer upward

 Temperature goes up as you go up
 85km - 700km above earth’s surface
 The upper thermosphere can range from about 500° C (932° F) to 2,000° C (3,632°
F) or higher.

Exosphere:

 Outermost layer? May not be part of the atmosphere because it doesn’t contain
components that the other layers has.
 700km – 10,000km? Gradually fades into the vacuum of space.
 Pretty much air less
Water: Water (Hydrosphere) is one of the most important component of earth. It is capable of
dissolving many substances than any other form of liquid. It also has the ability of taking chemicals,
nutrients and minerals along with it through air (evaporation), ground (rivers, oceans etc.) or even
through the bodies of any living thing, meaning water is responsible for the cycle and balance of life
and agriculture around earth. The human bodies is made out of 70% water meaning water is not
only vital for our survival but also for our existent and all other known life forms.

Energy: Energy is a daily necessity, it is use to move, see, think and grow. There are plenty of
energy types that are essential for living organism to develop and flourish on earth. An example of
this is the sun’s heat and light energy, it is important for the plants and trees in order for them to
provide food and oxygen for humans and any other life forms. The human body also needs many
types of energy that composes mainly of carbohydrate, proteins, fats, water, minerals and vitamins
in order to sustain their muscle drive and metabolism.

Inner core: The earth’s inner core is responsible for holds us into the earth’s surface. Due to its
iron large hot mass it produces the magnetic force field that forms our atmosphere in place which
protects living organism from lethal and deadly cosmic rays (solar wind) that the sun causes.
