WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF PACKAGING &
LABELING?

Packaging - is the science, art and technology of
enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale
and use. Also is the activities of designing and producing the
container for a product.
Labeling – is any written, electronic, or graphic
communication on the packaging or on separate but
associated label, it is also the Display of information about a
product on its container, packaging or the product itself.

FUNCTIONS AND IMPORTANCE OF
PACKAGING:
1.Promoting and Selling the Product – Attractive, colorful,
and visually appealing packages have promotional value. A
well design package is a powerful selling device because it
helps the product stand out from its competitors.
2.Defining Product Identity – used to promote an image such
as prestige, convenience, or status

for the project. It is important to
know the total amount of the
materials needed so that you can
prepare the money or budget.
Aside from the materials,
you should know what
tools/equipment are
appropriate in making your

What are the types of packaging?
TYPES OF PACKAGING:
1.Primary packaging – the material that first envelops
the product and hold it
2.Secondary packaging – is outside the primary
packaging, perhaps used to group primary packages
together.
3.Tertiary packaging – is used for bulk handling,
warehouse storage and transport shipping.
The most common form is a palletized unit load that packs
tightly into containers.
