The All New Jonah Twist

Author: Natalie Honeycut

This is a story about two admirable boys who has two different unique personality that
longs for a good friendship. Johan Twist is a third grader who wants some changes on himself so
that his mother, Mrs. Twist would admire him like how he adore his older brother named Todd.
He is a super achiever that even in school he would always been compared by his teachers. He is
always been taunt as the “slow”, “disappointment”, “tardy” and every litle mistake he did by his
classmate, Juliet. As a change, he wanted to prove everybody that he is like his older brother,
Todd who is responsible and good at everything. Just like his brother, he also wanted to have a
pet but his mother didn’t want him to have one for he is not responsible enough to take good
care of it and so he started to show off that he is ready to be a responsible, grown man just like
Todd. But Granville Jones, a new kid at school and a new neighbor at their place dooms Jonah’s
high hopes at his first day. Granville is much smaller than Jonah, but it seems to be he is though;
this started when he grab the seat next to Jonah which he saved for his friend, Robbie.

Granville always hide behind the bushes and trees to scare off Jonah when he is about to
take the road where he is hiding. Jonah is very furious about Granville who is pestering him ever
since the school started. He started to approach his teacher, Mrs. Lacey about Granville’s
behavior but its teacher tries to convince Jonah that pestering him means that Granville wants
to be his friend. His unconventional efforts to gain Jonah’s friendship turned against him. And
so, to show to their teacher that Granville is no good to be a seat mate he made a plan to turn
him down which eventually made their teacher think there we’re best friends. They tried to
work things out and it did, the two boys became good friends. Jonah did just not gained a friend
but also got a pet he longed for – a newborn kiten given by his friend, Granville.

Natalie Honeycut’s novel shows that no mater how small or big a person is, they can
still be a good friend and companion. This justified the characters of Jonah and Granville who
started in a not so good first impression. Kids like Granville pretends to act tough so that no one
will ever bully or laugh at them as because he is the newest and the smallest of the class. But
this doesn’t mean that he is really that bad, all he wanted was to be friend Jonah and his other
classmates which turned out that he became good friends with his seat mate, Jonah.

This is one of the nicest story I have red. Aside from being funny, very fast story plot, it
portrays sensitivity towards the feelings of other people because of their ability and appearance
yet it ends to be understanding that made the story more interesting and beautiful to read.
