Rubber Lily: A Rubber Covering for Reservoirs

This paper addresses one potential use of scrap tires within the civil

engineering field. Specifically, the feasibility of using shredded tires to help the

water shortage in some areas in the country by covering reservoirs, shredded

rubbers will be molded into rubber mattings, and it will be designed to float on the

water. It will help maintains its water level by covering the reservoir and insulate

the heat from the sun, by doing so the water vapor will be trap in the coverings and

return to the reservoir, with this the water level will drop moderately and somehow

helps the residents from its water problems.

Rubber Hollow Block as an Alternative to Concrete Hollow Block
This paper addresses one potential use of scrap tires within the civil

engineering field. Specifically, the feasibility of using shredded tires as an

alternative to Concrete Hollow Blocks (CHB) in constructions especially in walls.

It will be molded into bricks and used just like a CHB, however the Rubber

Hollow Block (RHB) has a property that can compete with a typical CHB. Due to

its properties, RHBs can be easily worked with and cost less due to its light weight

and its resiliency. It is also useful when used as a perimeter wall because it can be

used as noise barrier when near roads. RHB are very useful in construction and

ecofriendly because it is recycled materials that may be easily found within your

area.
Rubber Housing as an Alternative to Wood Housing in Refugee Centers

This paper addresses one potential use of scrap tires within the civil

engineering field. Specifically, the feasibility of using shredded tires as an

alternative to plywood which will be used in temporary refugee housing. With the

help of steel metal frame as a support, with a molded design it can be easily

assembled by the refugees and disassembled by the government to be stored and

used for future operations. Shredded rubber has a variety of properties that is

comparable to commercial plywood. When comparing the overall cost for the

rubber wall using shredded tires with a plywood wall, it is costly, however due to

the properties of rubber with less maintenance and durability of the shredded tires,

a substantial cost saving was realized in a long-term run.
