This Technical Engineering Report entitled “POWER SYSTEM
DESIGN OF 49.6 MW OIL FIRED POWER PLANT IN LAPU-LAPU CITY” is all about evaluation and analysis of the design of Power System of the 4X12.4MW Power Plant of East Asia Utilities Corporation.
The study/report is conducted with the purpose of evaluation
and verification of Power Plant’s Power System components as to conformance to international and local applicable standards in Power System design.
Safety to personnel and properties are the most critical
considerations when designing a Power System of the Power Plant. Each Power System components has to have the required capability to carry out its intended use during normal condition and should be capable to withstand without damaging itself during eventualities.
The scope of this TER starts in the bus of 69kV at switchyard.
In doing Fault Calculation, Fault MVA and X/R ratio at switchyard was obtained which is the maximum possible condition that could happen in this 69kV bus. Each Power System components individual impedances were gathered and then converted to per unit values using common base. Combining these impedances were done to come up with the Thevenin’s equivalent impedance at fault point. Positive and Zero Sequence Network Interconnection diagram of all four (4) shunt faults namely; Three (3) Phase Faults, Single Line to Ground Faults, Line to Line Faults, and Double Line to Ground Faults were being carried out. Fault duties calculation results are shown using a table. IEEE standards in Calculating Fault currents were used.
Main equipment sizing were done as well as sizing of MV Cables.
In sizing MV cables, three (3) criteria were considered namely; Ampacity, Voltage Drop and Short Circuit Capacity. Calculations were also considered in Grounding System Design which include Step and Touch Voltages, sizing of ground grid conductors and determination of system grounding resistance.
Protection System of EAUC Power Plant is also included in this
TER. Protection System for the Generators, Transformers and Motors are discussed which are all supported with calculations as to relay settings based on its respective capability curves. A protection coordination for the single biggest induction motor which is the Seawater Pump Motor is illustrated with a TCC.
Furthermore, evaluation and analysis of results for short circuit
breaker interrupting capacities, MV cable sizing and system grounding design reveals no major design standard issues.
Having given all required data necessary to evaluate Power
System design i.e. calculation of fault duties, equipment sizing, MV cable sizing, evaluation and analysis of results, the Author now came into conclusions. The Design of the Power System of a 4X12.4MW Power Plant of EAUC conforms to International and Local applicable standards in Power System Design. At any given circumstances and conditions and with proper planning and implementation of Power Plant System maintenance, safety to personnel and properties can be assured.
The above conclusion is based on the results of evaluation and
analysis using the present maximum available Fault Duty at 69kV bus of EAUC. Re-evaluation and re-assessment is recommended each time and addition of generation or a load is introduced to the EAUC Power Plant System or to the 69kV EAUC System.
