 The content is relevant and has
imaginative detail. Additionally, a
variety of techniques are used
e.g. figurative language, dialogue
etc.
 The main features of the genre
are present and clear.
 Uses adventurous and interesting
vocabulary.
 The character/s are well
developed through actions and
reactions during the story.
 The text is easy to follow. It
engages the reader’s interest
throughout.

 A clear structure with well
organised content e.g. there is an
appropriate build up and
resolution of the main event.
 Each paragraph is well written
e.g. a variation of length where
appropriate; they signal a change
in time, place, focus on a
different character or event.
 Chronological flow or logical
sequence of ideas link

Sentence structure and 7
punctuation
 Use of complex sentences with a
wide range of connectives such
as although, whether, since etc.
 A variation of sentence lengths.
 Grammar is almost always
accurate throughout the text.
 Punctuation is used accurately in
sentences, speech etc.
 Commas are always used in lists
and usually to mark clauses.
Spelling 3
 Spelling is generally correct
throughout.
 Correct spelling of most, not all,
polysyllabic words e.g. appear,
information, making, possible,
probably, wondering, search.
