PH Needs Own Department of Homeland Security
MANILA - The Philippines needs to create its own Department of Homeland Security that will trim
down the bureaucracy and effectively handle problems such as terrorism, the head of the Department
of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Monday.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Ano said terrorists can slip in and out of the country via airports, sea ports
or the backdoor because of the need to coordinate with various government agencies.
He said the country's ports are handled by the Bureau of Immigration which is under the Department
of Justice, Bureau of Customs under the Finance Department, Coast Guard which is under
Department of Transportation, and the Philippine National Police under the DILG.
