What is Survey?

- A Survey is defined as a research method used for collecting data from a pre-defined
group or respondents to gain information and insights on various topic of interest.
Surveys are commonly used in psychology research to collect self-report data from study
participants. Survey is a technique of descriptive research that is to determine the opinion
of a specified population. And also it is useful in describing the characteristics of a large
population no other research method can provide this broad capability, which ensures a
more accurate sample to gather targeted result in which to draw conclusions and make
important decisions.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A SURVEY
*Determining sample size:
Once you have determined your sample, the total number of individuals in that particular
sample is
the sample size.

Type of sampling- These are two essential type of sampling methods, they are probability
sampling and non-probability sampling.

Probability Sampling
- is a sampling method where the respondents is selected based on the theory of
probability.

Non Probability Sampling


- is a method where the researcher selects a sample of respondents purely on the basic of
their own discretion or gut.
What is descriptive research?
- Is used to describe characteristics of a population or phenomenon being studied. It does
not answer question about how/when/why the characteristics occurred. Thus, descriptive
research cannot be used as the basic of a casual relationship where one variable affects
another.

An important characteristics of descriptive research relates to the fact that while descriptive
research can employ a number of variables only one variable is required to conduct a descriptive
study. The three main purposes of descriptive studies can be explained as describing explaining
and validating research findings. Experiment are conducted in order to determine cause and
effect relationships.
