Block that is read by GREET directly

Model inputs directly affect the model computation
Several helper tools help the user to compute model inputs but do not affect the model until copied to a yellow input box
A block used for matrix operations
A cell with "List" indicates that neighboring cells have values used for data validation.
Error conditions are flagged with red. Check underlying data validation and conditional formatting for the cell.
Clear cells are primarily for calculations and secondary assumptions
Gray cells are placeholder pathways. Even though simulations of these pathways are completed in GREET, no though researc
Cells with red triangle in the upper right corner contain comments. Users are advised to read the comments

Release Notes
10/14/11. First release. Experimental/alpha
12/20/11. Fix data validation for several drop-down menus that kept "custom" and "none" from being selected.
1/12/12. Fix computation of "CO2 produced, g CO2/dry-g digested" in Recovery tab. 0.2058 becomes 0.288 because of correct computation
2/3/12. Change CO2 demand per g algae in Growth & 1st dewater to 1.83, the stoichiometric value when algae are 50 wt% carbon. Adjust de
to the average of the 75% and 90% scenarios in Lundquist 2010. This produces almost the same result as the first release but is a clearer se

5/30/12. Harmonization version. See, "Renewable Diesel from Algal Lipids: An Integrated Baseline for Cost, Emissions, and Resource Poten
D, Frank ED, Wigmosta MS" Changes include:
CO2 tab has two separate computations for CO2 recycle and CO2 transfer since recycle involves lower CO2 concentrations and potent
Growth & First Dewater: Algae retention efficiency is used to increase the harvest pumping load, but algae are treated as 100% harvest
treatment is applied to DAF in remaining dewatering. Also, pumping energy was adjusted per Harmonization report.
Remaining dewatering: DAF output reduced to 6 wt%, default (disc-stack) centrifuge energy reduced, per Harmonization report. The DA
so this version returns it to the pond with any algae lost by the DAF. We neglect questions about coagulant returning to the pond.
Extraction: NREL wet extraction Aspen model added.
Recovery: C wt% of feed, AD heat demand, and AD electricity changed per harmonization model. Also, repair formula for CO2 produced
The net GHG results are about 5% lower than in the Harmonization report because of other changes in GREET upstream, e.g., reduced
(higher NGCC share).
Avoid division by zero errors on the nutrients page when there is no AD residue or no mass sent to AD
Fix drop-down on Growth and 1st Dewater page
Set water use (g/L-algae) to the annual average, averaged over all sites in the Harmonization report
Set productivity to the annual average, averaged over all sites in the Harmonization report
Add comments explaining how to obtain the HTL results.
12/13/12. Add infrastructure tab. Misc. non-functional edits.

This worksheet computes all additional operations, after 1st stage dewatering, required to dewater
and, if needed, dry the algae. The result should match the requirements for extraction.

Notes:
1. Select up to 4 individual steps via the drop-down menus in the Net-Process Summary table. The
steps are assumed to be applied in order and the net result is computed in the summary column.

2. The various unit operations have parameters that can be set. See the various sections in the
page. The energy consumption for each is computed for each step in the summary table at the
bottom of the page. These are used for selection into the Net-Process Summary at the top.

3. "Efficiencies" for the dewatering describe algae retention. A 90% efficient process loses 10% of
the dry mass. It is assumed to go to anaerobic digestion (AD).

2. Water removed in dewatering subsequent to 1st stage is treated as lost since it is a small
fraction of the 1st state water movement.
