Reaction Paper – INVICTUS

Charisma
The movie shows a charismatic role when Mandela had a meeting with Pienaar that focuses on the
explanation of Mandela about being a good leader especially the role of being a leader is to
motivate their followers to believe in their own capabilities that they can do things more than what
they think that is possible. It shows how President Nelson Mandela influences his people to fight
for their rights and support the team to win the game in a different country like the England team.
He's supporting the team Africa to win the game by cheering them and giving them a moral support
so that they don't lose hope to themselves. He also made a standard that made people change their
mind set on discriminating black people, like him, from the white people. President Nelson
Mandela give his support in the beginning until the end. He never lose hope to the rugby team that
they will win someday. He give time to Good luck the team and allotted efforts for the team know
that whatever happens the president will always be there. With these simple actions and gestures
towards someone who needed support and guidance, his charisma was portrayed pretty well. From
the simplest action to emotional and physical action, charisma can be easily be given and seen,
just be kind and consider others problem and putting yourself on their feet, will make such a
difference that could influence many.

Inspirational motivation
You can become self-confident by doing three things. First, choose optimism. Believe in your
heart of hearts that today will be better than yesterday, and that tomorrow will be better than today.
Second, face your fears and act. Procrastination and inaction feed fear and rob you of self-
confidence. Action cures fear. Take responsibility for yourself and do something. Third, surround
yourself with positive people. Don’t let the naysayers into your life. Hang around with people who
are positive about themselves, their careers and life in general.
It showed when President Nelson Mandela was not ashamed of himself that he came from the
prison and became a president, instead he was proud ex-prisoner because it motivated him to work
hard and believe in himself. Self-esteem was developed while he was inside, with the help of the
poem of Invictus, he believed that there is a reason why that happened and why he was there
before. This showed the people that no matter what your past is, it won’t affect your future for as
long as you change your way of living and shows perseverance in changing for the better.
Intellectual consideration
Mandela as president engages in critical thinking, research and reflection about society, proposes
solutions, for its normative problems and gains authority as a public figure. One of their biggest
problem in that movie is racism they differentiate anyone by their colors. They think they are not
equal and that’s what Nelson Mandela analyze and synthesis basic knowledge and solutions for
the people of South Africa. You can see as a human Nelson Mandela did what he can so that
anyone will respect each other in how they respect themselves. For our own aspect Nelson Mandela
do not want anyone to hurt, he didn’t want war he wants the world to understand humanity and
develop socially.
The president was so very proud watching the intense tournament game, he showed no doubt and
hesitation on the game, even though at the first place they were about to lose the game, Mandela
just believed in them and cheered have hope that they can win the tournament game. He prepared
so many motivating stuff that helped them realize not to give up so easy, then eventually, to their
surprise, they won the game and everyone is happy they won the tournament

Individualized consideration
President Nelson Mandel has shown his good leadership by making action to help his country to
be united. He Despite all the struggle, he chose to stand up for the national team. Mandela didn't
just give orders to his team but he also giving them what they need, he listens to everyone's concern
and most importantly, he became the team's coach. Mandela showed to his team what they are
actually playing for, that it is for their country. He inspired his team to do well and to succeed by
letting them know what he had been through in his times inside the prison.
The individualized consideration in the movie Invictus is very transparent, it showed that the
leadership and trust for each other is very important to apply on one another not just for the leader
but also for the followers. Individualized consideration shows in the game scene, it's not easy at
first but with the help of Nelson Mandela for being a good leader to be able to unite his country
and the players for being the good listeners or followers, they won the game.
