Internal and External Criticism
Internal and External Criticism
Internal Criticism is more on the engagement with the meaning of the text rather than the external
elements of the document
Internal Criticism is more on the content of the document (ex. Reliability of the author) while the
External Criticism is more on the physical attributes of a specific document (ex. Author’s Handwriting).
Though both Internal and External Criticism has different aspects that it criticizes, it is both needed in
any collected source material for the credibility and authenticity of the document
