Experimental Research

It is a type of research that authorizes researcher to control the situation which allows
them to answer the question. The purpose is to discover the influence of one or more factors
upon a condition, group or situation.

For example: Student A and Student B are given the same test on the lesson. Student A is
given three hours to study a certain lesson and Student B is given two hours to study the same
test on the lesson. When the test papers of two students are scored, Student A gets a higher score
than Student B.

Independent variable = time

Dependent variable = achievement

The result of the experiment infers that the longer the time one is given to study a
material, the higher his achievement is on the material in terms of test scores.

Historical Research

It describes what occurred in the past and then makes a critical inquiry into the truth of
what occurred.

For example: Why are we using English as a medium of instruction in our schools today?

Answer: Americans imposed English as medium of instruction in our school


when they colonized the Philippines and the practice persisted up to this day.

Quantitative Research

It is an inquiry into a social or human problem that involves collection of numerical data.
It is analyze with statistical procedures.
