STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Purpose:
The final purpose of this project is to improve living conditions for our citizens in sector 5. We
do this by designing a beautiful 150 acres recreational area in their sector. The total time
horizon for executing this project is 24 weeks.
2. Project objectives: in order for us to achieve this, we have a list of objectives to
accomplish:

a. #1 objective: Preparing the area for the utilities team (plumbing, electricians,
carpenters etc.) to do their job. The time limit for this is 6 weeks.

# 1 GOAL: Clearing the area, cutting all the bushes and trees standing in our way.

#2 GOAL: Disposing of all the unnecessary vegetation, weeds, rocks etc. in order to prepare
the land for Team B (Utilities team) so they can easily do their thing. Some of the vegetation
can be burned and other has to be taken to the special area for biodegradable waste. This
job will be executed by not qualified workers and will take no more than 3 weeks. We will
move very fast in this stage because it doesn’t require any sophisticated labor

b. #2 objective: Building all the required utilities for a recreational park. For this
stage of the project no more than 6 weeks will be needed.

#1 GOAL: executing the electrical system for illuminating the park

#2 GOAL: the water system necessary for irrigating the vegetation; this system will take the
water from the fountain that will be drilled.

#3 GOAL: the water system to be used in cases of fires; this has to be linked to a fountain
since it’s significantly cheaper than to link it to the city water system

c. #3 objective: landscaping – alleys, vegetation, playgrounds; this part of the

project will take 12 weeks
#1 GOAL: constructing the alleys, the basketball and tennis courts and the concrete stairs in
the designated areas and the central fountain
#2 GOAL: building 3 playgrounds for small children at each of the entrances of the park, with
swings, tree house, slides etc.

#3 GOAL: planting additional trees and bushes, the lawn (it will be sowed since this option is
far less expensive than using already grown lawn)

4. Specifications of end result

By the end of this project we expect to accomplish each and every one of our objectives
both in time and within the budget. We expect to have a very beautiful recreational area
which our citizens in sector 5 to be proud of. We expect to have good quality basketball,
volleyball and tennis courts, a beautiful lawn and vegetation and a reliable water and
electrical system to minster the park.

5. Schedule

a. The start date is at the beginning of spring, somewhere around the 15 th of March
b. The end date will be 24 weeks later with a possible delay of 2 weeks if needed,
that is the 1st of October.

c. Major milestones: 1st of May, the completion of the first stage of the project, 15
June, the completion of the second stage of the project and 15th of September,
the completion of the last stage of the project

Planning activities:

In the first place, we thought that the main thing which could be done is the land clearing and tree
cutting to be much easier for the workforce specialists to do their job.

In the second place, the roads are very important in a parc. They must be paved in order to allow more
activity for the people, then bring water sewage, toilets and elecricity – in one word utilityes wich are
very important in a park.

They must build shelters for picknicking and for protection against rain.

Finally we will bring landscaping experts to accomplish the design project in with they will have to

SCHEDULING PROBLEMS

1. Use the PERT time calculation formula to determine expected time.

Te= (a+4m+b)/6

a = most optimistic completion time

b = most pessimistic completion time

t(1,2) = (5+4*7+9)/6 = (5+28+9)/6 = 42/6 = 7 days

t(2,3) = (3+4*4+5)/6 = (3+16+5)/6 = 24/6 = 4days

t(3,5) = (3+4*5+7)/6 = (3+20+7)/6 = 30/6 = 5 days

t(2,4) = (6+4*9+18)/6 = (6+36+18)/6 = (42+18)/6 = 60/6 = 10 days

t(4,5)= (6+4*7+20)/6 = (6+28+20)/6 = 54/6 = 9 days

t(5,6) = (3+4*5+7)/6 = (3+20+7)/6 = 30/6 = 5 days

t(5,7) = (7+4*8+9)/6 = (7+32+9)/6 = 48/6 = 8 days

t(6,7) = (2+4*4+6)/6 = (2+16+6)/6 = 24/6 = 4 days

2. Create a project PERT network (see next page)
