This intern should gain his/her work experience under direct supervision of an Architect as his/her Mentor.
The Mentor shall be a registered and licensed Architect in the jurisdiction in which the employment is
undertaken, either will be the employer or the architect to whom student intern reports, during each
recorded period of work experience.

3. Before a Mentor-Architect employs a student intern, the Mentor must issue a Certification of Acceptance
(Architecture Internship). The certificate will be sent to the AI Faculty Coordinatorfor approval and will
return an executed copy to the company. If the AI Faculty Coordinator has not approved the individual
employment agreement by the third day of classes for the summer session enrolled, the student will be
dropped from the class and the student will not receive credit from the Architecture Internship.

4. The terms and conditions of the student’s internship are between the employer and the student Intern. The
Department believes that the requirement for the student to find and negotiate his/her own
training/employment is an important part of the learning process. The HTE/Mentor-Architect may provide
necessary incentives to the student trainee/intern as contained in the Memorandum of Agreement

5. The Department is committed to minimize demand on the time and resource of construction industry
employers; however, the architecture internship is a curriculum requirement and it is the department’s
responsibility to verify that the student has successfully completed the requirement. Therefore, the
department will require the student to obtain the signature of the employer’s AI Mentor/Architect on the
Certification of Acceptance (architecture internship) and Log Book of Diversified Work Experience, on
daily/weekly progress reports, and on the student’s AI Certificate of Completion and Completion
Letter/Report. A Mentor is encouraged to make comments on the department Architecture Internship
Program and the student’s performance; the AI Completion Letter/Report is the opportunity for such
comments.

6. Occasionally the department may arrange for an on-site visit with the student during his/her internship
period. Any such visit will be coordinated in advance with his/her Mentor.
