Barite
Heavyweight Additive

Barite heavyweight additive is a barium sulfate material Benefits

used to weight drilling muds and cement slurries. Typically, Barite additive can provide the following benefits:
85 to 90% of barite additive will pass through a 325-mesh
sieve. • By increasing slurry density, it helps restrain high
formation pressures and improve mud displacement.
Applications • It is applicable in deep, high-temperature wells.
Barite additive is effective at bottomhole temperatures • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not
(BHTs) between 80° and 500°F (27° and 260°C). A barite classify barite additive as a hazardous waste.
additive concentration of 135 lb/sk of cement will provide a
maximum slurry weight of 19 lb/gal.
