The following paragraph numbers refer to API STD 675, Third Edition, November 2012,
which is part of this Specification. The text in each paragraph below is an addition to this
Standard unless it is noted as an exception. Paragraph numbers which do not appear in
API STD 675 are new paragraph numbers to be inserted in numerical order.

1 Scope

1.1 This Specification, together with the Pump Data Sheet and Purchase Order,
defines the minimum mandatory requirements for positive displacement,
controlled volume pumps of the diaphragm and packed plunger types.
Diaphragm pumps using direct mechanical actuation are excluded from this
Specification.

1.2 Metering pumps shall be supplied by vendors qualified by experience in


manufacturing the units proposed. To qualify, the vendor must have
manufactured, at the proposed manufacturing location, at least two pumps of
comparable speed, flow, head, power rating and discharge pressure for a
liquid of comparable characteristics. These pumps must have been in service
for at least one year and must be performing satisfactorily.

1.3 Systems manufactured under a license agreement shall carry the licensor's
written guarantee.

5 Statutory

5.2.3 Any conflicts between this Specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs) or industry standards, codes and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Consulting Services Department, Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

5.2.4 Direct all requests to deviate from this Specification in writing to the
Company or Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company
procedure and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services
Department, Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

6 Basic Design

6.1 General

6.1.1 The equipment (including auxiliaries) covered by this standard shall be


designed and constructed for a minimum service life of 20 years and at least
3 years of uninterrupted operation. It is recognized that this is a design
criterion.

6.1.5 Equipment sound pressure levels shall not exceed 85 dB(A) at a distance of
one meter. Control of the sound pressure to meet this requirement shall be
the sole responsibility of the vendor.

6.1.13 (Modification) Unless otherwise specified, the equipment will be installed


outdoors in a desert area, with relative humidity from zero to 100%
(condensing) and ambient temperatures from 0°C to 50°C (32°F to 120°F).
Metal temperature can reach 70°C (158°F) when exposed to direct solar
radiation. The equipment shall be designed to withstand these conditions.

Additionally, equipment which is not enclosed or hermetically sealed and is


situated offshore or near shore (i.e., within ½ km of the shoreline) shall be
protected against failure due to windborne seawater spray and the
accumulation of wetted salts.

6.1.22 A volumetric air venting valve shall be provided to automatically expel any
gas from the hydraulic fluid and to ensure specified flow accuracy.

6.1.23 All pumps heads shall be provided with vent screw to vent the pump section
unless approved by the Standards Committee Chairman; Pumps, Seals and
Mixers.

6.2 Pressure Containing Parts

6.2.5.1 (Modification) The details of threading shall conform to ISO 261, ISO 262,
ISO 724, ISO 965, ASME B1.1 or other internationally standardized threading.

6.3 Liquid End Connections

6.3.1 (Exception) Connections shall be suitable for the maximum allowable pump
working pressure.

6.4 Flanges

6.4.1 Flat-faced flanges are not acceptable for materials other than cast iron or
Ni-resist alloys.

6.6 Diaphragms

6.6.2 Sandwich type double diaphragm pumps shall be supplied when specified on
the Data Sheet.

6.6.5 Double diaphragm pumps shall be provided with a diaphragm failure


signaling system.

6.12 Lubrication

6.12.1 Details of forced feed lubrication systems shall be submitted through the
Company or Buyer Representative for review and approval of the Standards
Committee Chairman; Pumps, Seals and Mixers.

6.13 Capacity Adjustment

6.13.1 Mechanical lost motion capacity adjustment is not permitted. Hydraulic lost
motion capacity adjustment is not permitted for pumps with motors equal or
higher than 0.746 kW (1 hp).

6.14 Materials

6.14.2.4 Copper or copper alloys shall not be used for parts that are in contact with
process unless approved by the Standards Committee Chairman; Pumps,
Seals and Mixers. Nickel-copper alloys (NW 4400 or UNS N04400),
bearing Babbitt, and copper-containing precipitation-hardened stainless steels
are excluded from this restriction.

6.14.2.12 Materials exposed to a sour environment shall be in accordance with the


requirements of ISO 15156.

6.14.2.21 Other alternative materials complying with other national standards are
acceptable provided that their mechanical and chemical properties are
equivalent to or exceed those of the specified materials.

6.15 Nameplates and Rotation Arrows

6.15.3 Pump nameplates shall also include Purchase Order number, service, pump
mark number, liquid pumped, pulsation damper charging pressure, lubricant,
date of manufacture and bearing numbers.

7 Accessories

7.1 Drivers

7.1.2 Motors

7.1.2.1 (Modification) Motors rated less than 0.746 kW (1 hp) shall comply with
NEMA MG 1 or IEC 60034, and the following additional requirements:
a) Motors for exposed outdoor installation shall be of the totally
enclosed type suitable to the environment according to NEMA MG1 or
IEC 60034-5. Motors shall be rated in accordance with NEMA MG 1 or
IEC 60034-1 for a 50°C ambient and a Class B winding temperature
rise.
b) Motors for indoor installation shall be totally enclosed or of the drip
proof guarded type.
c) The insulation system shall be Class F minimum.

d) Enclosures and terminal housings shall be metallic.


e) Single phase motors shall be provided with a built-in thermal protective
device.
f) Fans shall be metallic or reinforced fiberglass, and shall be designed for
dual rotation

7.1.2.2 (Modification to first sentence). Electric motors 1 HP or larger shall comply


with 17-SAMSS-503 as specified on the motor data sheet.

7.1.2.6 (Exception) belt driven pumps are not allowed.

7.2 Couplings and Guards

7.2.1 Lubricated couplings are not permitted.

7.2.11C) Guards on pumps located in electrically classified areas shall be of the non-
sparking type.

7.5 Controls and Instrumentation

7.5.2 (Exception) Instrumentation shall comply with 34-SAMSS-831.


Electrical installation shall comply with 17-SAMSS-515.

7.8 Pulsation Suppression Devices

7.8.1 Pressure pulsation suppression devices shall be furnished by the vendor as


necessary to meet the following criteria. Unfiltered peak to peak pulsation
levels shall not exceed 3% of:
a) Rated suction pressure or 100 kPa gauge (15 psig) whichever is less;
b) Rated discharge pressure or 100 kPa gauge (15 psig) whichever is less.
The vendor shall be responsible for ensuring that the following
situations are avoided:
- Cavitation in the suction or discharge of the pump;
- Over delivery due to suction losses or uncontrolled delivery;
- Exceeding maximum allowable working pressure of pressure
containing parts (including auxiliaries).

The vendor shall provide any fittings required for charging the pulsation
dampers. These shall be securely fastened to the pump.

7.8.2 Pulsation dampers shall be designed so that no solids settle in the interior of
these devices.

8 Inspection, Testing and Preparation for Shipment

8.1 General

8.1.1 Buyer's inspection shall be in accordance with the referenced Form


175-311500.

8.4 Preparation for Shipment

8.4.3.6 All alloy casings shall be provided with plugs of the same material as the
casing.

8.4.3.8 All loose materials and mill scale shall be removed by blasting to Sa 2 or by
pickling from reservoirs, tanks, coolers, filters, bearing housings, piping, and
other components with which lube oil come in contact.

8.4.3.9 A complete set of spare gaskets and O-rings shall be included with the
equipment when shipped.

9 Vendor's Data

9.2 Proposal

9.2.1.1 All deviations from this Specification shall be separately listed by the vendor
in his quotation and shall refer to the relevant paragraph numbers.

9.3 Contract Data

9.3.5.3 Manual for Operating, Maintenance and Technical Data

The vendor's operating and instruction manual shall indicate torque values to
be used for the bolting of the cylinder head(s).

9.3.5.4 Technical Data Manual

The technical data manual shall be provided and shall include the
manufacturer's name, type, size, volume, charge pressure and charging
instructions for all pulsation dampers.

Revision Summary
11 February 2016 Major revision to be in-line with the latest revision of the international standard API 675,
3rd Edition. This will ensure company standard alignment with current international standard
revision used in the market.
