B.TECH (Open Elective)

Subject code: ME417 Subject Name: Control System Engineering Dept. Code: ME
No. of pages: 02 Full Marks: 60 Duration: 2 Hours

N.B.: (1) All questions are compulsory (2) Assume suitable data whenever necessary but justify the
same. (3) Figures to the right hand margin indicate full marks (4) All parts of a question should be
answered at one place

Q. Particulars Marks

Consider the system shown in Fig. 1(a). To improve the performance of the system a feedback is
1. added to this system, which results in Fig. 1 (b). Determine the value of K so that the damping ratio
5+10
of the new system is 0.45. Obtain the overshoot, rise time, peak time and settling time of the systems
shown in Fig. 1 (a) and Fig. 1 (b) under unit step input.

stability for K and Kh (note that Kh must be positive).

Consider the spring-mass-damper system shown in Fig. 4 where f1(t) and f2(t) are the time
4. dependent forces (inputs) and x1 and x2 are the responses. Derive the equations of motion 6+9
of the system from the free body diagram and also find the transfer functions of the system.
