ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Richard Butcher - CEng., MScEng., FAusIMM, MIMM, MIExpE, MSAIMM

Principal, Dempers & Seymour

Richard Butcher holds an MSc (Eng) in Mining Engineering from the University of the
Witwatersrand and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy. Richard
is also a member of the MIMM, AusIMM, Institution of Explosives Engineers, and
SAIMM. Richard has 22 years of experience in the mining industry. He has been
involved with caving projects in Africa, Australia and Asia. His experience ranges from
caving project initiation to detailed study, implementation and cave closure stages. He has
been involved in 20 caving projects internationally. Richard was been involved with the
international caving study between 2001 and 2003 and was a Reviewer of the ICSS
“Block Caving Geomechanics Monograph”. He is currently a Principal with Dempers &
Seymour Consulting.

Clive Seymour, BSc Hon Mining Engineering, PhD Mining Engineering

Principal, Dempers & Seymour

Clive Seymour, a principal mining engineer, is a Director of the Australasian practice.

Clive obtained a BSc honours degree in mining engineering and a PhD from Cardiff
University. He has over 20 years postgraduate experience. On completion of his university
studies, Clive gained practical mining experience with the Anglo American Corp. in South
Africa. He joined SRK Consulting in 1988. In 2002 he formed Dempers and Seymour
with Gary Dempers to provide specialist geotechnical and mining consulting services. He
has international experience having worked on projects in Chile, Russia, Africa and, more
recently, Australia. He has worked on a wide range of projects from Greenfield’s
feasibility studies through to operational reviews for finance companies, mines and mining
companies.
