1.1 Function of Digit analysis

The route addressing is required during the call connection of the switch. The basis for
the network addressing is the number. The function of the ZXC10 MSCe digit analysis
is to determine the network addressing and service processing mode of various
numbers to ensure the signaling interaction and call connection of the switch.

The digit analysis includes three architectures: Selector, analyzer, and analyzed
number.

The digit analysis starts from the digit analysis selector. Each digit analysis selector
includes a number of digit analysis entries. Each digit analysis entry includes a number
of analyzed numbers. The system provides seven DASs: New Service Analysis Entry,
CENTREX Analysis Entry, Private Analysis Entry, Special Analysis Entry, Local
Analysis Entry, National Analysis Entry and International Analysis Entry. Numbers to
be analyzed in the number analyzer include PSTN number, mobile number, and TLDN.

1.2 Sequence of Digit analysis

In the digit analysis, select a digit analysis selector and then use the number analyzer
for analysis sequentially. For a specified digit analysis selector, a number is analyzed
through various entries according to the selector requirement in a fixed sequence, that
is, new service, Centrex, private network, special service, local network, national toll,
and international toll, until the end of the digit analysis. The new service, private
network, and special service analyzers differ from other four analyzers in the following:

1
CM3G-304-E1 Introduction to the ZXC10 MSCe Digit analysis and Number Conversion

For the three analyzers, when the digit analysis result is null, continue to use the
subsequent analyzers for analysis; the other four analyzers exit the analysis and return
the unallocated number results.

The analyzed numbers are series of specific number flow. In general, the system selects
same digits from a group of numbers for the analysis object according to the stream
rule. For example, 13305160000~13305169999, select 1330516 as the analysis object.

According to the number type, the analyzer is divided into seven categories. The same
type of numbers can be classified into the same analyzer. Multiple analyzers in the
same type can be created, which can be distinguished through the different analysis
entries.

The selector is in the top layer. It consists of different types of valid analyzers (if an
analysis entry is set to 0, it means that the analyzer is invalid) in sequential queue
according to the order of valid analysis entries. This order is the sequence of the digit
analysis. That is, set each valid analyzer sequentially through the selector according to
the indication in the case of the digit analysis until the analysis ends. If there is no
definite analysis result or subsequent analysis indication, it is treated as the unallocated
number. The valid analyzer in the lower part of the queue is called the subsequent
analyzer of valid analyzer in the adjacent upper part of the queue.

1.3 Digit analysis Selector Type

In the ZXC10 MSCe system, the digit analysis selector should be configured in three
cases: VMSC in the mobile office configuration, trunk group configuration in the trunk
management, and SIP office ID configuration in the local office configuration.

There are seven digit analysis selectors in VMSC configuration, that is, MS call
origination, roaming number, special subscriber, IP service, calling number, roaming in
foreign province, and mobile public phone analysis selector. There is one digit analysis
selector in the trunk group configuration, that is, incoming digit analysis selector. There
is one digit analysis selector in the SIP office ID configuration in the local office
configuration, that is, incoming digit analysis selector. Functions of the digit analysis
selector include:

1. Call origination digit analysis selector: Analyze called numbers and forwarding
numbers dialed from ordinary subscribers of the local office. One VMSC is
configured with only one call origination selector.
2
Chapter 1 Digit analysis Configuration

2. Roaming digit analysis selector: Analyze the TLDN number carried in the
location response message returned from the HLR. If the called subscriber is in
the originating office of the LOCREQ, the locreq response message from the
HLR will not contain the TLDN. One VMSC is configured with only one
roaming selector.

3. Special subscriber digit analysis selector: Analyze called numbers and

forwarding numbers dialed from special subscribers. It is applicable to the
military network subscribers. Not used in China Unicom.

4. IP service digit analysis selector: Applicable to IP service. It is used when the

digit analysis result is the mobile IP service.

5. Calling digit analysis selector: Not available temporarily.

6. Foreign province roaming digit analysis selector: It is equivalent to the call

origination digit analysis selector of foreign province roaming subscribers.

7. Mobile public phone digit analysis selector: It is equivalent to the call

origination digit analysis selector of mobile public phone subscribers.

8. Incoming digit analysis selector: It is applicable to the analysis of called

numbers of ordinary incoming voice calls. It is used to analyze called numbers
contained in the incoming IAM/IAI messages.

1.4 Definition of Digit analysis Selector

The 3-digit length selector is defined. The first digit of the selector (from left to right)
indicates VMSCID. “1” indicates VMSCID1 and “2” indicates VMSCID2, and so on.

The second and third digits of the selector indicate the type and number of the selector.
Specifically, 01 indicates the call origination selector, 02 indicates the roaming selector,
03 indicates the special subscriber, 04 indicates the IP service, 05 indicates the calling
number, 06 indicates the foreign province roaming, 07 indicates the mobile public
phone. 08~19 are reserved. The digit starting from 20 indicates the trunk incoming
digit analysis selector. The digit starting from 30 indicates the SIP incoming digit
analysis selector.

1.5 Use Principle of Number Analyzer

The selection of the number analyzer should comply with the following principles:

1. In general, various VMSCID number analyzers cannot be shared.

2. Call origination selector: Establishes the special service, local, toll, and
international number analyzer. Strictly control the use of new service analyzer.
The new service analyzer can be used only in the special requirement of special
offices.

3. Roaming number selector: Each VMSCID should be established with the

selector independently. At present, the roaming selector can share the same
roaming number analyzer. For the roaming selector, the local network analyzer
should be established, including all TLDN numbers in the CDMA network and
international roaming TLDN numbers.

4. Incoming selector of the trunk office ID: Incoming selectors of different office
IDs should be different, but can share the number analyzer (to be determined).
For example, 130 office direction of China Mobile and China Unicom. The
trunk group of the PSTN office direction needs to analyze 0133 number.
Therefore, establishes the number analyzer independently. It should not share
with the 130 office direction of China Mobile and China Unicom.

5. Incoming selector of the SIP office direction: Supplemented later.

6. Avoid “Route Loop” in the case of co-existence of multiple numbers during the
digit analysis. In the wireless local call, use the “multiple number co-existence”.
The local toll area codes can be divided. The local MSC office number should
be analyzed as the MSC ordinary service. Other numbers are outgoing directly.

7. Correct use of the number conversion: The conversion at the calling side will be
reflected in the ticket. The conversion at the called side will not affect the ticket
and only the called number format is affected. The number attribute will affect
the ticket. If it is set to the local call attribute, the local area code is added in the
local call attribute.

1.6 Meanings of Parameters in Digit analysis Result

1.6.1 Call Service Type

It directly determines the call processing by the switch. Different analysis results will
cause the program to enter different flows. Call service types of the MSC include local
network outgoing/local call service, national toll outgoing (intra large area) automatic
service, national toll outgoing (inter large area) automatic service, international toll
outgoing automatic service, local office free special service, local paid special service,
outgoing free special service, outgoing paid special service, MSC ordinary service,
MSC local office service, MSC local outgoing service, additional service, and mobile
IP service.

1.6.2 Destination Network Type

The homing network type of the called subscriber

1.6.3 Number Conversion at Calling Side

It is used for the conversion of the called number at the calling side to meet the
requirement.

1.6.4 Number Conversion at Called Side

It is used for the called number at the called side, applicable to TUP and ISUP. It is
used to convert the called number to the desired format of the subsequent office.

1.6.5 Whether or Not to End Analysis

Analysis not ending, analysis ending, no more analysis

Analysis ending, all digits will be analyzed in the subsequent analyzer

Analysis ending, the rest digits will be analyzed in the subsequent analyzer.

1.6.6 Various Flag Bits

Currently, the following are used: Use SS7 to initiatively originate calling numbers in
outgoing call (indicate the initiative transmitting of calling number by using TUP or
ISUP outgoing); request the calling number after digit? in the incoming number stream,
or send A6 signaling after digit? in the incoming number stream (request the calling
number for incoming calls. It is applicable to associated signaling).
5
CM3G-304-E1 Introduction to the ZXC10 MSCe Digit analysis and Number Conversion

1.6.7 Minimum and Maximum Number Length

Judge the called number dialed by the subscriber. It is used to intercept numbers that do
not meet the requirement. According to the requirement of China Unicom, when a
CDMA subscriber dials a CDMA subscriber or local number, the MSC should judge
the length of the called number and intercept the irregular number length. Therefore,
based upon the length of a number we restrict the minimum and maximum number
length in the digit analysis. Do not extend the number length range.

1.6.8 Length of Toll Prefix plus Area Code

It is used to judge whether the incoming called number is standardized. It is configured

according to the actual length. For example, 0254636016, the toll prefix is 0 and area
code is 25, so, the length of the prefix plus the area code is 3. For the number in the
format of 13X, the length of toll prefix plus area code is 0. For the number in the
format of 013X, the length of toll prefix plus area code is 1.

1.6.9 Number Attribute

Attribute of the analyzed number according to the actual attribute of the number. For
the local number, set the attribute to local, for example, 114, 4636016. Set the attribute
of the national number to national, for example, 13X, 025114, 0254636016, and so on.
Set the attribute of the international number to international, for example, 0086133,
0085254636016. For IP phone, you can set its attribute to national number, and you are
not allowed to use the default attribute. You can specify the number attribute after the
number conversion according to the above principles.

1.6.10 Voice Channel Recovery Mode

There are three modes: Calling control release, called control release, and mutual not
controlled release. According to Chinese MTUP specifications, the channel release
mode should be in the mutually not controlled release for the mobile office.

1.6.11 Overlay Index

Not used temporarily

1.7 Call Origination Selector Configuration

When a local office mobile subscriber originates a call, all dialed numbers of the

6
Chapter 1 Digit analysis Configuration

subscriber are sent to the number analyzer for analysis. The call origination selector
includes the special service analyzer, local network analyzer, national toll analyzer, and
international toll analyzer. In special cases, use the new service analyzer.

Data to be configured is as follows:

1.7.1 Special Service Number Analyzer

It is applicable to the short number with the start digit of 1 and 9 in China. It is
analyzed in the special service analyzer. There are three types of short numbers: Type 1:
Common short number; Type 2: Local office free special service number; Type 3: IP
phones and 193 access number in China.

1. Short number: It is analyzed according to common subscriber number for the

outgoing. The analysis type is “Outgoing charge special service”. The digit
length of the number is set according to the actual requirement of the short
number. For example, 114 is three digits (maximum and minimum). The number
of the paging station should feature the same length of the shortest and longest
digits. It is not allowed to set to variable length, except the special case.

2. Local office free special service number: It should be accessed as close as

possible. The number should be analyzed as “Local office free special service”.
The outgoing is performed through the corresponding outgoing routing.

3. IP telephone and 193 access code: China Unicom IP access number is in the
special service analyzer, including 1791100, 1791101, 1791102, and so on. The
service type of 1791100 is the international toll. Others are national toll (big
area). The digit length is restricted through the length of the toll analyzer and the
access code. Meanwhile, intercept the wrong dialing mode such as making a
local call through the IP phone. For example, in Zhaoqing China, analyze
179110758, and the number type is vacant. The digit analysis of 193 is similar to
17911. The analysis of China Telecom 17909 should comply with the actual
requirement, without any interception processing. The service type is local
network outgoing/local call service. The length can be restricted. The number
changes according to situation in each place (changed at the called side).

1.7.2 Local Network Number Analyzer

1. 133 number segment: It is analyzed in “Local network number analyzer”. The

7
CM3G-304-E1 Introduction to the ZXC10 MSCe Digit analysis and Number Conversion

digit analysis result is: MSC ordinary service, mobile network, stop to continue
the analysis after the ending of the digit analysis, sending calling number in the
outgoing through SS7, the shortest and longest digit length (both are 11), the
length is 0 when toll prefix added with area code, national number, and mutually
not controlled release mode. The called number can be sub-divided as specific as
133H1H2H3.

2. Mobile number segment (non CDMA number): The analysis in the local
network analyzer: (distinguish the MSC of the local number segment): Local
outgoing/local service, mobile network, stop to continue to the analysis after the
ending of the digit analysis, initiatively sending the calling number in the case of
the outgoing call using SS7, the shortest and longest digit length (both are 11),
the length is 0 when toll prefix added with area code, national number
(mandatory. Otherwise, the local area code may exist in the ticket), and mutually
not controlled recovery release mode. Analysis of non-local number segment
analysis result: National toll outgoing (inter large area) automatic service,
mobile network, stop to continue to the analysis after the ending of the digit
analysis, initiatively sending the calling number in the case of the outgoing call
using SS7, the shortest and longest digit length (both are 11), the length is 0
when toll prefix added with area code, national number, and mutually not
controlled recovery release mode.

3. Local PSTN number: Analysis in local network analyzer and local network
outgoing/local call service of the digit analysis result. The analysis of prefix
from 2 to 8 is one digit. It includes the public network, stop to continue to the
analysis after the ending of the digit analysis, initiatively sending the calling
number in the case of the outgoing call using SS7, the shortest and longest digit
length comply with the actual length of local telecom authority, the length is 0
when toll prefix added with area code, number default attribute (according to
charge ticket requirement), and mutually not controlled recovery release mode.
The short number starting with the digit 1 is analyzed in the special service
analyzer. The short number starting with the digit 9 is analyzed in the special
service analyzer.

1.7.3 National Toll Number Analyzer

For the analysis in the national toll number analyzer, the national toll prefix 0 should be

8
Chapter 1 Digit analysis Configuration

analyzed in the local network analyzer. Other numbers are analyzed in the national toll
analyzer. Therefore, the rest part should be analyzed.

The digit analysis result is in the unified format: National toll (inter large area)
outgoing automatic service.

The minimum digit length should include the prefix 0, area code, and actual shortest
number (like 114 in China for querying telephone number). Set it to 7 digits in the area
with three-digit area code. Set it to 7 in the area with the two-digit area code.

The longest digit length should include the prefix 0, area code, and actual longest
number (the super-long special service number may not be included). Generally, it is
set to 11 or 12 digits. It depends on the actual situation. For example, to support the
super-length paging number, increase the maximum digit length properly.

In the national toll, analyze 13xxxxxxxxx number with intercepting the voice prompt.
The service type is the additional service. The voice selection is Tone_UC_11 “Please
do not add 0 before your dialed number”.

1.7.4 International Toll Number Analyzer

It is recommended that it should be implemented in the international toll analyzer. The

international toll prefix 00 is analyzed in the local network and national toll analyzer.
Only the rest part should be analyzed. The digit analysis results is the international toll
outgoing automatic service. The maximum and minimum digit length should include
the prefix 00. The calculation mode should be the same as the national toll. It ranges
from digit 6 to digit 19 temporarily.

1.8 Roaming Analysis Selector

The roaming analysis selector should have the local network analyzer independently,
without sharing with other analyzers. All VMSCIDs can share the local network
analyzer.

The number analyzed in the roaming analyzer should be the TLDN carried in the MAP.
The format is 8613344. The number nature is the international format. According to
China Unicom specification, 8613344xxx should be analyzed during the digit analysis.
The digit length is 13. After the ending of the analysis, the CC will delete 86. In the
case of the outgoing, “Mode of called number using international format (outgoing)” in

9
CM3G-304-E1 Introduction to the ZXC10 MSCe Digit analysis and Number Conversion

the trunk group attribute is added with 0086, as a result, it is in the format of
008613344XX in the outgoing.

If there are two MSC in local area, the analysis result of the TLDN number segment
belonging to another MSC is the MSC local outgoing service.

For other TLDN number segment, it is analyzed as the MSC toll call service. If there is
only one MSC in local area, it is analyzed as the MSC toll call service.

(For example, the TLDN number segment with the format of 8613334 should be
processed in the same way).

The international roaming digit analysis is subject to China Unicom specifications. If

the number length is not determined yet, set it to 6-19 digits. Whether the international
TLDN number format contains the prefix “00” is subject to whether the TLDN number
contains the prefix “00” in the LocationRsp message in the MSC. The outgoing routing
link can be selected as China Telecom or 193 toll outgoing according to China Unicom
local actual routing. The outgoing number format is determined on site in the
negotiation way.

1.9 Incoming Digit analysis Selector

Principle: The incoming selector specifications of different office directions should not
be the same. The number analyzer can be shared.

According to China Unicom specifications, the number transmitted in the CDMA

network should be in the international format. To facilitate the unified configuration of
the number, the attribute “Use outgoing (incoming) office to add (delete) international
format number” must be selected corresponding to the directly connected trunk group
among MSCes in the local network. In this way, the system will automatically convert
the destination address of the IAI (IAM) message to the corresponding format.
Therefore, the format is changed as 133x national format when it enters the number
analyzer.

For non mobile switching office like China Telecom, the local network analyzer and
national toll analyzer should be configured generally.

For mobile switching office like China Mobile and China Unicom, the local network
analyzer and national toll analyzer should be configured generally.

For the incoming of the adjacent CDMA switching office, the local network analyzer
10
Chapter 1 Digit analysis Configuration

should be configured.

1.9.1 Local Network Analyzer

Local TLDN number segment: The digit analysis result is “MSC local service”, the
maximum and minimum digit length is 11, and the length of toll prefix plus area code
is 0.

133 number segment: The digit analysis result is “MSC ordinary service”, the
maximum and minimum digit length is 11, and the length of toll prefix plus area code
is 0. (It is used as the GMSC)

1.9.2 National Toll Analyzer

GSM trunk group in China Mobile and China Unicom: 133 analyzed as the additional
service. The voice selection is Tone_UC_11 “Please do not add 0 before your dialed
number”.

Trunk group of China Telecom and 193/IP toll office: The analysis result of 133
number should be the MSC ordinary service. The minimum and maximum digit length
is 12. The length of toll prefix plus the area code is 1 (with the support of 0133 dialing
mode).

1.9.3 Other Numbers

When the local MSC works as the VMSC, the above digit analysis is enough. For the
tandem office, it is necessary to tandem and forward calls sent from the VMSC.
Therefore, configure all other TLDN number segment 8613344xx. In the area where
China Unicom has built the toll network, the toll number segment should be configured.
For the forwarded TLDN number segment 8613344X, only 13344x should be analyzed
in the forwarding analysis because the forwarding number is analyzed as 13344x
during the incoming analysis. In the case of the outgoing, “Mode of called number
using international format (outgoing)” in the trunk group attribute is added with 0086,
as a result, it is in the format of 008613344XX in the outgoing. The service type is set
to national toll inter big area auto service.

1.10 Precautions for Digit analysis

For the MDN in the incoming call, the minimum and maximum digit length should be

11
CM3G-304-E1 Introduction to the ZXC10 MSCe Digit analysis and Number Conversion

11 when 0 is not contained, and the minimum and maximum digit length should be 12
when 0 is contained.

For the TLDN number in the incoming call, the minimum and maximum digit length
should be 11.
