Narrative Report

The Group was assigned to conduct the seminar on the 17th of July 2019. Yet due to the delayed
processing of requirements, the seminar was rescheduled on August 7, 2019.

The group was in consensus to conduct an HIV/AIDS Seminar and workshop. Yet due to the
sensitivity of the subject, the topic of the seminar was changed into Blood Smearing Seminar and
Workshop.

The Materials, program, and the presentation was ready and prepared. Yet due to the changes made
4 days before the seminar, we seem to come up with an unprepared seminar.

The group decided to make the AnaLab as the venue of the seminar for it was seen as convenient
and proper venue for the smearing seminar, for we will be dealing with blood samples.

We started late, waiting for our first year participants. Setting up another Laptop for the
presentation was also seen as one of the problem, but all thanks to Ms. Eloisa who brought her laptop and
made us use it for a while.

The workshop/ demo went well, with the assistance of our instructor, Ms. Dime Rose A. Diola. The
group observed that the participants really showed interest to learn how to do the smearing.

The group stressed the importance of a perfect smear, especially to us who is and will be medical
practitioners in the future. The aim of the group is not just about the smearing itself but for the
participants to test or measure their patience; which is one of the characteristics medical practitioners
must have.

SWOT Analysis

STRENGTH – Materials were provided by the school

- The PPT slides were visible and readable from the back.
- Some Fourth year students donated blood samples and were able to share their
knowledge on proper smearing during workshop.
- Smearing is an interesting topic for first year students.

WEAKNESS - The venue were not that ready.

- The activity started 20 minutes late.
- There’s no back-up plan on the audience or of the participants for the
seminars aside from the first year students.
- The tasks were not divided evenly.

OPPORTUNITIES – The venue is so good for smearing. Yet, was not able to maximize the
whole area.
- The topic was an interesting topic for first year students. Yet, chose not to join
due to their schedule and requirements.

THREAT - a different topic was decided by the group, weeks before the seminar.
- The group was given different topic for the seminar days before the seminar.
- The fourth year and the lower years were on their final examination week,
affects the number of the participants, as well as their energy to participate.

Dr. Tito G. Rafil

Chair, General Education Department

J.C. Aquino Avenue, Butuan City

Dear Dr. Rafil;

Good day!

We are the fourth year students of Butuan Doctors’ College, taking Bachelor of Science
in Medical Technology program. As a requirement for our course (Principles and strategies of
Teaching Health Education), we would like to invite BSMT I students to attend a Blood
Smearing Seminar and Workshop located at Analab Old Building, Butuan Doctors’ College on
August 7, 2019 Wednesday at 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
The group believes that giving the basic knowledge of smearing to first year students are
important since they are going to encounter this on their proceeding years.

Thank you very much for your kind consideration.

Sincerely yours,

Czarina Angelu Dy Jerlen S. Guquib
