RAMAN SCIENCE CENTRE LECTURE ON “COMBATING


WILDLIFE TRAFFICKING”

John Donne had rightly said,

‘Nature’s great masterpiece, an elephant; the only harmless great thing’

The students of Delhi Public School, Kamptee road, Nagpur had the privilege of
attending the popular science lecture on ‘Combating Wildlife Trafficking’ by Dr.
Samuel Wasser (Director, Centre for Conservation Biology, University of Washington)
organized jointly by U.S Consulate General, Mumbai and Raman Science Centre on
25th June 2019.

Dr. Wasser who has been working in the field from the past 40 years of protecting the
African Elephants from poachers and wildlife traffickers shared his magnificent
experience He elucidated how poaching has turned into a well-organized
transcontinental wildlife crime in the world.

He also enlightened how poachers kill elephants for their tusks, fabricate records and
smuggle them to different countries. He also discussed about Pangolins, the most
trafficked animal in the world.

Before concluding his lecture he answered to the queries of the audience. It was a great
learning experience for the students; they all thoroughly enjoyed the lecture and gained
a lot from it.
