I HAD A STROKE AT 33

Lee story is interesting not just because she had a stroke at suck a young age, but because of how she
recounts an experience that was characterized by forgetting. She says that afterher stroke, “For a month, every
moment of the day was like the moment upon wakening before you figure out where you are what time it is.” With
this personal essay, she draws readers into that fragmented headspace, then weaves something coherent and
beautiful from it.

ANNIE DILLARD’S SKETCH OF HER CHILDHOOD FRIEND JUDY SCHOYER

My friend Judy Schoyer was a thin, messy, shy girl whose thick blond curls lapped over her glasses. Her
cheeks, chin, nose, and blue eyes were round; the lenses and frames of her glasses were round, and so were her
heavy curls. Her long spine was supple; her legs were long and thin so her knee socks fell down. When I first knew
her as, my classmate at the Ellis School, she sometimes forgot to comb her hair. She was shy she tended not to
move her head, but only let her eyes rove about. If my mother addressed her, or her teacher, she held her long-
legged posture lightly, alert, like a fawn ready to bolt but hoping it camouflage will work a little longer “(An
American Childhood” Harper and Row, 1987.)

HONGKONG- it was late on Saturday night in August when Fernando Cheung found himself caught between
a rock-throwing crowd and a hard plactic police shield. “ I was telling them slow down. Not to arrest- they should
disperse the crowd and don’t hit the protesters,” Cheung, a member of Hongkong’s Legislative Council, said
translating his polite urgings to the imposing column of riot police advancing toward the protesters. “They yelled
back at me and told me to leave.”

The drug war is going big-time, with anti-narcotics agents killing the suspected operator of a shabu
manufacturing facility in Valenzuela. Police raiders said Chinese national Meco Tan was shot dead when he tried to
flee in his car during yesterday’s early morning raid. Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa warned that
more large-scale drug traffickers would fall in the coming days, amid observations that the drug war has so far
focused only on small-scale and mostly low-income street pushers and impoverished drug users.

People often say the key to confidence and success in life is to simply “not a give a fuck.” Indeed, we ofter
refer to strongest, most admirable people we know in terms of their lack of fucks given. Like “ Oh, look at Susie
working weekends again, she doesn’t give a fuck.”Or “Did you hear that Tom called the company president an
asshole and still got a raise anyway? Holy shit, that dude does not give a fuck”Or” Jason got up and ended his date
with Cindy after 20 minutes. He said he wasn’t going to listen to her bullshit anymore. Man, that guy does not give a
fuck.”

-This is too broad. What are the specific destriments of alcohol consumption that you would like to discuss?
GOOD: High levels of alcohol consumption have destrimental effects on your personal health, such us weight gain,
heart disease, and liver complications.

-notice we got very specific in our reasons why. In your thesis statement, you don’t need to state every single
detriment you’re going to lay out (in fact, you shouldn’t as it will risk becoming a run-on sentence) but you can
point to the main areas you will explore.

The study of a literary work is closely connected with the national identity of its protagonist. The behavior of
people in every country relies on its traditions. Comparing actions of literary heroes from different countries allows
seeing not only personal features but markers of national literature, too. Aldo Nemesio from the university of Torino
also pays attention to this method in his work. “ The Comperative Method and the Study of literature” published
1999. I also used this method in my work because I think it can help to explain the behavior of the personages in
“Life of Pi” by: Yann Martel

accessibility of information on the internet, the many projects to emerged around the turn of the new millennium.
‘regenaration’ initiatives in deprived areas of Britain, and the popularity of television history programmers such as
‘restorations’ and “Who do you think you are?”

PHYLOGEOGRAPHY OF WESTERN CYMBALARIA (PLANTAGINACEAE) REVEALS TWO INDEPENDENT LONG-DISTANCE

DISPERALS AND ENTAILS NEW TAXONIMIC CIRCUMSCRIPTIONS

The Belearic Islands, Corsica and Sardinia (BCS) constitute biodiversity hotspots in the western
Mediterranean Basin. Oligocene connections and longdistance dispersal events have been suggested to cause
presence of BCS shared endemic species. One of them is Cymbalaria aequitriloba, which, together with three
additional species, constitute a polyploidy clade endemic to BCS. Combining amplified fragment length
polymorphism (AFLP) fingerprinting, plastid DNA sequences and morphometrics, we inferred the phylogeography of
the group and evaluated the species ‘ current taxonomic circumscriptions.
